#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 1897 - A Whirlwind of White!
Hello darlings! Itās your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina blogger Emma here, back with another tantalising Tuesday delve into the fabulous history of tutus! This week, we're pirouetting all the way back to the 2nd of November, 1897. Hold onto your tiaras, ladies, this date is chock-full of delightful discoveries.
(And wouldnāt you know it, this is post number 3436! Can you believe Iāve been sharing my love of ballet with you all for this long? A true testament to my enduring passion for tutus and everything they represent!)
From Derbyshire to 1897: A Time Travelling Adventure
Oh, what a whirlwind of a journey this has been! My dear Granny Buttercup knitted me a darling little travel coat ā it's positively charming, with embroidered lace flowers and a delicate pink lining. She insists itās essential for travel across the realms of time! (Granny can be a bit dramatic, but her knitted creations are absolutely divine.)
I just hopped off the train in Paris, darlings. Itās always such a treat to see the Eiffel Tower sparkling under the Parisian moonlight.
1897 ā The Dawn of a New Tutu
1897, you see, is a time of dramatic changes in the world of dance! Ballet is undergoing a truly splendid evolution ā imagine it! ā a kind of ballet metamorphosis, where old forms meet innovative new ones! Itās all so exciting!
Todayās leading ladies on the stage are wearing white, fluffy, and exquisitely beautiful tutus. These are known as ātutu blancā or "tutu Ć plumesā and it seems that these tutus will become wildly popular! The lightness, the billows of white...Oh my, simply heavenly! This fluffy cloud of tulle with its exquisite feather embellishments really makes a ballerina float ā like she's suspended by magic!
Seeing Ballet with a Whimsical Gaze
Yesterday, I enjoyed an afternoon at the Grand Ballet de lāOpĆ©ra de Paris! Such grace! The way the ballerinas moved - it was like watching fluffy swans take flight across a shimmering lake. And the colours! Imagine the scene ā a majestic, billowing white against a backdrop of vibrant pink and green! Simply unforgettable.
My journey is fuelled by the very thing I adore ā the magic of ballet! Itās fascinating how in this world of high culture, ballerinas from Derbyshire or London, or anywhere else in the world, can dance a language we all understand ā one based on graceful moves, dramatic costumes and exquisite emotions.
Paris: The Hub of Haute Couture & Elegance
Speaking of clothes! The streets of Paris, darling, are overflowing with dazzling outfits! Just look at the stylish hats and the perfectly structured jackets, not to mention the decadent feathered boas that everyone is wearing! You really need a new outfit each day to truly enjoy it all.
This is where you see all the inspiration behind the tutu's incredible transformations ā fashion is a living, breathing dance of creation, ever changing! There is an undeniably elegant and feminine feel about Paris, even though there are a few brave souls attempting what might be termed "modern" attire. Some might consider these daring fashion choices as shocking, but I believe these trends are simply a sign of change ā which, in this era of change, can only be a good thing!
But back to our ballerinaā¦
Every corner of Paris is inspiring. It truly inspires the creativity of designers, not just of elegant gowns and couture hats, but also of stage costumes and, yes, the tutu. These iconic designs continue to inspire designers throughout the 20th century, just as they will inspire the amazing ballet styles of tomorrow. I predict a revival in this classic white "tutu Ć plumes" styleā¦donāt you just feel it in the air? Oh, you know it's true, I can feel the elegance radiating throughout time. This white style is truly one for the ages.
Pink Tutu Dreams: Embracing the āPinkificationā Revolution
Now, while my heart belongs to all things pink and beautiful, let me assure you ā there is more to ballet than meets the eye, even more than just these lovely white tutus, you see!
The world of ballet, darlings, is bursting with vibrant, unique personalities. There are so many dancers who find expression through movements and styles I find totally captivating! And you never know what surprises await around the next cornerā¦ (Maybe that's why Iām so drawn to time travel! )
Donāt worry ā Iāll be continuing to bring you more enchanting tales from my ballet-inspired adventures through time. In the meantime, darling, you simply have to consider adding a pink tutu to your wardrobe, even if itās for the next fancy dress party! Iām sure you will see what I mean, even just for one eveningā¦
And with that, my lovelies, I must dart off to enjoy another delectable Parisien croissant! Don't forget, it's TutuTuesday, darlings. And every Tuesday, there is a new ballet history post just waiting to be discovered at www.pink-tutu.com.
Until next Tuesday!
Bisous
