#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 26th September 1905 (Post 3848)

Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, your pink-tutu-clad guide to all things tutus! This week we're travelling back in time to the glorious year of 1905, a year full of glamour and elegance. Oh, the trains, the performances, the exquisite fabrics! This was a golden age for dance and fashion!

So, let's step into our time machine and whisk ourselves away to Paris, the City of Lights, where ballet flourishes like a beautiful rosebud! Can you picture it, darling? Paris in 1905 is buzzing with activity - artists, poets, and, of course, beautiful ballerinas!

Now, I can hear you all asking: What were they wearing? I'm so glad you asked! We're stepping into an era when the tutu, already a staple for dancers, was really beginning to find its own fabulous and expressive identity.

A Moment In Time

26th September 1905, imagine! You know, this was the year, just a few weeks ago actually, that Isadora Duncan was performing at the Salle Pleyel. Imagine the excitement! A beautiful bohemian spirit with such incredible freedom of movement! No rigid corsets for her, no, her beautiful chiffon dresses danced with the air as she pirouetted. Such beauty!

The Dawn Of The Tutuโ€™s Transformation

The tutu was a true masterpiece in 1905. A mix of ethereal fabric, billowing to create delicate shapes and a sense of fluttering flight. It had become so much more than a costume. The way it moved and how the lights danced off it - simply enchanting!

Imagine a ballerina, in her graceful tulle tutu, lit up by spotlights, moving across the stage in a ballet of romanticism and magic. Just as the ballet tutu blossomed, it began to break free from tradition. And this was no longer a dance of perfectly placed tutus.

I am just beginning my journey, but this journey takes me on so many amazing trips! You can imagine my thrill as a tutu enthusiast. It makes me want to go buy even more tutus.

The Elegance of a Bygone Era

You know, this was a time of sophistication and grandeur. We weren't afraid of a little bit of dramatic flair. Remember the fashions in that era! Those luxurious fabrics, lace, velvet, and ribbons adorned those gorgeous outfits, creating breathtaking beauty! The Victorian influence was very present - think ruffles, layers of fabric, and intricate detailing. It's all so lovely! Oh, I do love the styles.

Of course, no outfit was complete without a hat - and what a spectacle! Large, floppy hats, and intricate fascinators graced the heads of elegant ladies everywhere! My favourite is the hat with ostrich feathers, absolutely magnificent!

Back In Time - Travelling Onward

And can you even imagine travelling in 1905? Imagine embarking on a grand train journey in those gorgeous carriages, gliding along the tracks. Such a romantic adventure, wouldn't you say? Just sitting back with a book and enjoying the scenery through those large windows. I love those old trains!

Oh darling, there is so much inspiration to find in that bygone era! So, while you're at home this Tuesday, why not throw on your favourite pink tutu, gather a bunch of feathers, and let your imagination take you back in time! I can just imagine all of you with your feather boas and sparkly tulle tutus. I can see you spinning like little dancers in a world of beautiful, pink delight.

Until next Tuesday, stay fabulously tutu-ful and, of course, keep shining like a bright pink star! Love, Emma,
