#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time โ€“ 13th August 1907!

Greetings, dearest Tutu-lovers! It's Emma here, your time-traveling tutu enthusiast, and welcome to post number 3946 of the ever-expanding #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History blog! Grab your pinkest tights, darling, because we're taking a trip back in time โ€“ all the way to the glorious summer of 1907!

Now, you may be thinking, "Emma, the year 1907? Tutues are all about the romance of the 19th Century!" But trust me, lovelies, ballet history is full of fascinating twists and turns.

And 1907 is a pivotal year, dear reader! Think of it as the springboard to the elegant ballets and costume designs we cherish today.

This week, we find ourselves on the bustling Parisian streets. The City of Lights is a vibrant hub of artistry and elegance, and ballet, of course, is right at the heart of it all!

Imagine this, lovelies: Parisian boulevards adorned with gaslight lamps, the air alive with the sound of horse-drawn carriages and the lilting tunes of street musicians. The Theatre National de l'Opรฉra is aglow, and the entire city anticipates the latest masterpiece โ€“ the much-anticipated premiere of The Blue Bird.

A whimsical ballet about a young girl who embarks on a fantastical adventure with the titular Blue Bird, this ballet is nothing short of groundbreaking. For it marks the arrival of Les Ballets Russes โ€“ the legendary Russian dance troupe who brought an exhilarating new flavour to the Parisian scene!

Les Ballets Russes were known for their bold, theatrical, and vibrant costumes and set design, making each ballet a lavish, captivating spectacle. Now, dear friends, let's not forget what our ballet tutus are about โ€“ pure artistry and the celebration of movement!

1907 saw the tutus on the Parisian stage become even more graceful and fluid. Picture soft, swirling silk, exquisitely crafted in hues of vibrant blues, shimmering silvers, and dramatic blacks. And then there were the delicate embellishments, sparkling jewels, and flowing feathers. It was a breathtaking display of elegance!

The spirit of Les Ballets Russes rippled through Parisian fashion too. Designers, inspired by the ethereal elegance of the ballerinas, infused these theatrical elements into their designs. A wave of silk and satin gowns with flowing drapes, paired with intricate lace detailing and extravagant embellishments, hit the streets, with every elegant Parisian woman becoming a fashion icon!

And you know what else? Even in 1907, Parisian ladies adored their tutus. Imagine seeing these gorgeous ladies stroll down the Champs-ร‰lysรฉes, perhaps wearing a pale pink silk tutu layered over a fitted silk bodice โ€“ their tutus just as beautiful and flamboyant as the ballerina's!

And speaking of pink, dear friends! There are whisperings of a new shade making its mark in fashion. It is said to be a beautiful and soft hue that embodies both sweetness and confidence. Now, if that's not the essence of the perfect pink tutu, I don't know what is!

Now, I know you're itching to find out where to score some 1907-inspired tutu goodness, dear reader! So let's get you your pink fix! (Of course, I have just the shops here in Paris for a true ballet-fashion frenzy!)

And for those who want to recreate that Parisian glamour at home โ€“ here's a tip! Take a simple white cotton tutu, perhaps a plain white one from your local department store, dear. And just like the ingenious 1907 dressmakers, add your own embellishment magic with beads, feathers, ribbons, or maybe a delicate embroidered detail โ€“ making your tutu utterly unique and brimming with personality!

Remember, lovelies, the beauty of a tutu is that it transcends time and transcends the boundaries of the dance stage! Let's make the world a more dazzling, a more pink place! Until next week's Tutu Tuesday, keep twirling and dreaming big!

Much love and happy tutus,

Emma x

P.S. Catch me performing tonight at the Palais Garnier! I'm waltzing with the Paris Opera Ballet for a one-off charity performance โ€“ you bet I'll be twirling in my dreamiest pink tutu for that!
