Tutu Tuesday: A Journey to 1908 #3986

Hello my darling tutufarians! It's Emma here, your resident pink-tutu-wearing time traveller, ready to whisk you off on another adventure into the captivating world of ballet history! Today, we're boarding the express train from Derbyshire to the year 1908, and trust me, there are some real gems waiting for us in the world of tutus!

As you know, I’m all about the tutus - they’re the very best part of the whole ballet experience! I believe tutus are a symbol of beauty, freedom, and artistry, so I think everyone should embrace them! I’m not talking about wearing one all the time, just... maybe every now and then. To celebrate the loveliness of these amazing dancewear items, I go back in time every Tuesday for a little history lesson.

And let’s face it - a time travelling, pink tutu wearing ballerina just doesn’t make sense without some amazing performances to keep her going. That's why I perform wherever I go - I have to fund all these lovely jaunts back into time, you see.

So let’s travel back in time, where do you think the pink tutus are the most popular this week? Well this week it’s Paris my lovelies! The City of Lights, the fashion capital of the world - you know, the place where it all just happens! Today’s Tuesday, which is my favorite day, because I've got a really great #TutuTuesday ballet show for you!

Today we’re watching a very exciting premiere, Anna Pavlova in a new production of Le Cygne, which, as we all know is my personal favourite! Oh, Pavlova is such a captivating dancer, absolutely enchanting on stage, and she's a real showstopper in her magnificent tutus. Can you imagine stepping out on stage in such a magnificent costume, knowing all eyes are upon you, all eyes are on that fabulous pink tutu!

There's nothing quite like the thrill of watching Pavlova twirl - she was really one of the first true icons of dance. And you know what, when it comes to tutus, she knew her stuff. She’s so graceful, her movements just flow and she always carries herself with an air of effortless confidence and grace. Oh, it makes me dream of twirling under the grand chandeliers of the Opera House...

Speaking of chandeliers, have you seen the spectacular one at the Opera Garnier? A true marvel! It makes you think of all the brilliant dancers that have performed beneath it – they’ve left their legacy in the dust of the stage.

But of course, we're not only here for Pavlova and her tutus, we're here for the tutu itself – to really delve into what these garments are all about.

Think of tutus like a timeline, and the history of dance is part of this timeline! Every new fashion era comes with it’s own exciting designs in ballet - that’s why they’re my very favourite dancewear items. It all starts with the tutus of the Romantic Era. The tutu is light and flowing, like a delicate cloud of gossamer – all ethereal and romantic - that's why it was nicknamed the "fairy skirt!"

Oh, but how I wish I could just grab that tutu from 1908, spin and twirl, and really take in that moment. And then pop in the carriage and zoom right back home! That's the beauty of being a time-traveling tutu aficionado – you can pick and choose the moments and fashion that you love the most. Well, now it’s getting late, so let’s all say au revoir, my dears, and see you on next Tuesday, ready for our next dance journey!

Until then, be sure to take the time to embrace the elegance and magic of the tutu, and keep those tutus sparkling, my loves!

Yours, in a pink tutu, Emma xxx
