#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 1910-03-15 - Post #4081! šŸ©°šŸŒø

Hello my lovelies! Itā€™s Emma here, your tutu-loving time traveller, and itā€™s another glorious #TutuTuesday! This week weā€™re taking a trip back to 15th March 1910, and boy, oh boy, are we in for a treat! šŸ’–

You see, this particular date wasnā€™t just any ordinary day in the annals of time. This, my darlings, was the day the glorious Pavlova herself took the stage at the London Coliseum. Now, I know what you're thinking: "Emma, isn't that a bit...dramatic? You do make everything seem so important, donā€™t you?"

But trust me, darling. A performance by Pavlova, back in the day, wasn't just about dance. It was about fashion, about spectacle, and above all, about pure artistry! šŸ’«

Just imagine: the Coliseum, its magnificent red and gold dĆ©cor dazzling beneath the chandeliers, the audience hushed in anticipation. And thenā€¦the stage lights come up, revealing Anna Pavlova, resplendent in a white tutu, the very essence of grace and elegance. The world holds its breath. And then, she movesā€¦

This, my sweet dears, is the world I came to travel back to. For all those of you who think tutus are merely costume, let me assure you, this beautiful, diaphanous fabric is woven with stories, steeped in history, and drenched in the magic of the human spirit.

Speaking of storiesā€¦ can you believe itā€™s been nearly a century since Iā€™ve been here, on this particular date! Time truly does fly! It makes me want to take you on a little walk through the city of London, back in 1910ā€¦ Oh, imagine it! Weā€™ll stop by the exquisite Liberty of London, marveling at their exquisite silks and lace, all perfect for adorning your most stunning tutus.

And of course, no London sojourn is complete without a delightful visit to a tea shop, complete with crumpets, cakes, and -of course- the most charmingly elegant china! šŸŒø

Ah, but I digress. Weā€™re meant to be talking about tutus, not tea. Though frankly, darling, the two seem inextricably intertwined, wouldn't you say? šŸ„°

So back to Pavlova! Letā€™s discuss the tutu sheā€™d be wearing! Itā€™s most likely a classic romantic tutu: lightweight, delicate, swirling, and just begging to be twirled and danced with!

Of course, unlike the tutus we have today, these tutus might not be made with the same layers and layers of tulle, the ones that billow like clouds and make us feel like ballerinas ready to take flight! šŸ©°

It was during this period that the tutu underwent a major evolution! The romantic era had given way to a more streamlined look - shorter tutus, emphasis on movement and flow. A little less ā€œen pointeā€, a bit more about expressiveness, the kind of expressiveness that brought joy to every dancer. A joyful, light, airy way of moving. šŸ’–

What's amazing about this time period? Tutut was not just for ballerinas, darling! It was a look! In 1910, there was a real ā€˜Tutu Momentā€™ going on, and London was at its very heart! It became an ā€œin vogueā€ fashion statement. For afternoon parties, or dancing on a whimā€¦ Imagine walking along Regentā€™s Park in a pretty pale pink, blue or white tutuā€¦ simply divine! Elegant but comfortable. A perfect combination. šŸ’–

And yes, London is a magical place when it comes to fashion! If you've ever been, you know exactly what Iā€™m talking about. That blend of elegance, eccentricity, and pure, unabashed love for everything stylish and chicā€¦ the kind of magic you can't get anywhere else.

So, darlings, there you have it, the tale of a Tutu-tastic day in the world of 1910! Whatā€™s more? This week, I'm having a competition! Tell me about the first time you wore a tutu! I'll be choosing my favourite and featuring it next week!

Until next Tuesday, darling, keep twirling and always keep it pink! šŸ’…
