#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A 1911 Voyage Through Time! 🩰💕 (Blog Post #4132)

Hello my darling dears! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, dedicated to all things tutu! Today, we're whisking ourselves back to the dazzling year 1911, where tutus were about to have a moment that would forever change ballet as we know it. Buckle up, my loves, because today’s trip is gonna be one for the history books (and one that involves a very special trip to Paris, quelle surprise!)

You see, before 1911, tutus were a lot like... well, me in a pair of jeans! Plain and simple. Imagine perfectly plain, floor-length skirts, that's what they were wearing on stage. They might have a bit of flounce, but definitely nothing fabulous. Imagine my reaction! It’s simply unbearable to think of! But *patience, darling, as the saying goes... The dance world was on the brink of a revolutionary change, thanks to none other than the fabulous Michel Fokine!

Now, this Mr. Fokine, he was all about a revolution in ballet. Forget all that stiff, formal boring stuff! Michel was the first to dare to say “Let’s ditch the rigid and embrace the free!” He was all about dynamic movements and emotional storytelling. So what did this bold and creative visionary do? He set about designing the most revolutionary costumes for his dances – ones that flowed with the movement of the dancers.

His daring vision took us all to that incredible place - Paris in 1911. I imagine the scent of perfumed air mingling with the buzz of excited chatter at the theatre, as I would be delighted to wear my vibrant pink tutu in the crowd.

This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for, dearies! This was when *the shorter tutu - the one that let dancing shine through - truly came into its own.

And just imagine what this would have looked like: feathers fluttering, sequins shimmering, the sound of tulle swirling with each graceful movement. You can't tell me that's not breathtaking! Don’t even try to deny it.

I would adore to visit a Parisian boutique of that era, where my dreamy, pale pink tulle tutu might have been waiting to be born. Oh, dear imagine that, dearies!

Michel’s new vision took to the stage and took the world by storm. It’s thanks to him, and to his daring creativity, that tutus became what we know and love today. And of course, he is the only one who deserves a massive, heartfelt, pink tutu thank you for this glorious change.

To celebrate this extraordinary occasion, I will be enjoying the most glorious ballet show in the heart of Paris on my next visit, a visit that I am sure you all want to hear about on a future post! So stay tuned, and be ready for even more wonderful trips through time with your favourite pink tutu princess.

As for the pink-tutu queen, I am off now to find the perfect pink outfit to suit a day dreaming of Parisian glamour! Until next Tuesday!

With the most girly kisses,

Emma 💖
