#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Peek into 1916! 🩰💖
Hello my darling dears! It’s Emma here, back again for another #TutuTuesday! This week I’m waltzing back in time to 7th March, 1916, just imagine, the Great War is raging, but in the world of ballet, there's still such grace and beauty! This is post number 4393 on my little ballet-tutu blog, www.pink-tutu.com, where I share my love of tutus and all things dancey with you lovelies! 💕
It’s a balmy Tuesday here in Paris, darling, and oh how I love being here, especially on days like this! There's a delicious cafe au lait brewing at a little bistro down the road that I absolutely must have after my trip to the Opera Garnier! Ooh la la, such beautiful architecture and the most divine costumes. You'd think you were walking through a fairytale, or perhaps a dreamscape painted with silk and satin! The city buzzes with excitement. Everywhere you look there's life and laughter!
Speaking of laughter, have I told you about my lovely, cheeky, tutu-loving little friend from Derbyshire? Oh, you must have heard of him! He's none other than my dear Bertie, an up and coming fashion journalist (and dare I say, ballet fan) who I met while travelling through time!
He's got the best laugh and makes the most incredible travel plans. Like, can you believe I’ve actually travelled all the way to 1916 by train? And by train I mean steam train! Such a luxurious affair! But really, travelling by train gives you time to truly soak in the atmosphere of your surroundings. Plus, who doesn’t love the smell of that smokey, old train carriage? Pure romance!
So, what’s so special about the 7th of March, 1916, I hear you asking? Why, this date marks the very first time that “La Source” was staged in Paris! Remember the ballet? The very famous story with its beautiful costumes! It’s such a delight! Honestly, if I wasn't already decked out in my fabulous pink tutu, I’d want to go right now! Such a shame it’s no longer in the repertoire, oh the loss of those spectacular tutus, each like a fluffy cloud dancing with every pirouette!
If there’s one thing that absolutely sparkles my fashion senses, it’s seeing those shimmering layers of tulle in a beautiful ballet tutu. And darling, speaking of tulle! You wouldn't believe what I found at that charming boutique tucked away in the heart of Montmartre! It’s a tiny shop, full to the brim with gorgeous lace and velvet and of course, Tulle. It’s a delight to browse amongst its shelves, where all the prettiest dreams are woven. And darling, that is precisely where I’m heading this afternoon!
Perhaps you could even imagine, after visiting this divine atelier, I might have to treat myself to a new tulle tutu. Just think! Perhaps I'll add some hand-sewn sequins to create a unique and fashionable masterpiece! Just imagine, my pink tutu twirling and sparkling!
But you must admit, there's nothing quite as elegant and captivating as watching the movement of a ballerina as she gracefully glides across the stage, wearing a magnificent tutu. I think it's such an amazing feat! Imagine all that dancing and artistry all thanks to that bit of tulle around your hips! I wonder, dear friends, have you seen a ballet show lately? If not, it is simply an absolute must for your fashion calendar!
Speaking of shows, tomorrow is going to be an incredible day because, darling, I’m seeing “Le Pavillon d’Armide” at the Opera Garnier! Oh the joy of such artistry! I have such an array of colours for tomorrow. And darling, do I dare to go full on, fashionista extra-pink? Or maybe this week, we could do some fabulous black velvet paired with a stunning turquoise velvet sash?! And of course, a stunning pink feathered boa - I think I might have a new love, my darlings!
Oh my, it's getting late, I must be going! I’ve a lot of planning to do. A fabulous day filled with beautiful dances and Parisian shops!
But I’ll be back next Tuesday for another installment of #TutuTuesday with another story from the archives of my ballerina time-travel journey. Don’t forget to share your favourite ballet outfits and ballet-inspired outfits in the comments, darling, I absolutely love to see how you showcase your own sense of style. 💖
Until then, don’t forget to keep it fabulously pink, lovelies, and don’t ever be afraid to twirl!
Love,
Emma
