#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 27th July 1920 - Post #4622
Hello darlings, and welcome back to my little corner of the internet! It's Tuesday, which means it's time for another #TutuTuesday dive into the fascinating history of the most glorious garment ever invented - the ballet tutu! Today, I'm going to whisk us back to 1920s Paris. Picture it: cobblestone streets, the scent of fresh croissants wafting through the air, and a world just bursting with fashion, art, and... of course... the magic of ballet!
I've always loved Paris! There's something about that city, you know? It whispers stories of elegance and creativity. I even went to see a show at the Moulin Rouge in the late 1880s - absolutely fab-u-lous! They used a lot of pink in those shows, just to give you an idea...
Oh, but before we dive into 1920, let's have a little fun! How many of you have worn a pink tutu in the past week? I know, I know... some of you might say it's just not practical! But listen, life's a stage! A pink tutu can instantly transform you into a ballerina queen, even for a brief moment!
From the Stage to the Streets of ParisAlright, back to Paris in 1920! We're in the midst of what's often called "the roaring twenties." A period of great change, brimming with excitement, music, and dance. And let's not forget... the tutu!
The ballet tutu as we know it today was really gaining popularity during this era! And Paris was, and still is, the absolute centre of it all. Just think of all those gorgeous dancers gracing the stage of the Opéra Garnier! Those exquisite costumes, and... yes... you guessed it... loads of pink tutus! It was all about beauty, grace, and exquisite style.
This year in 1920, there was a particularly dazzling show at the Opéra Garnier. The production of "Giselle" starring the legendary Anna Pavlova was absolutely divine! They even brought in a new collection of tutus from a prestigious designer. Breathtaking, my dears, breathtaking! Imagine: swirling pink and white tutus with just the right amount of sparkle, those graceful leaps, the delicate pirouettes. Just heavenly!
Now, these Parisian ladies didn't just keep the tutus confined to the stage! That’s right! The magic of the tutu started spreading from the theatre into everyday fashion. You might see a woman in a little black dress one minute and then a blush pink tutu the next! Just imagine rocking up to a cafe in a whimsical tulle number! Those Parisiennes really knew how to express themselves with flair.
Ballet and the Rise of the “Flapper”The whole world, my dears, was feeling that ballet energy! Think of it as a glamorous, graceful, dancing trend. The rise of the “Flapper” was part of that same feeling. A youthful, carefree attitude that took over, inspiring even fashion to be more expressive! We saw this shift with a new wave of dance and fashion that embraced more playful, whimsical elements!
Of course, flapper fashion incorporated the fun, playful and dynamic spirit of dance! Think flowing dresses, bobbed hair, loose blouses, and the daring Charleston! And you guessed it - the tutu, in all its gloriously sparkly pink, began appearing in all sorts of interesting ways. Imagine, a little tutu incorporated as a stylish scarf! Oh, the imagination!
My Travel Tips and the Magic of Train JourneysSpeaking of travelling, who has ever seen a Paris ballet performance? So many tutus! It's like entering another world! To experience it yourself, there's no better way to get there than a train journey! I find myself mesmerized by the ever-changing scenery. Plus, with the sway of the carriages, it's almost like a gentle dance already! You have a chance to imagine yourself on that Paris stage... maybe even in a pink tutu, wouldn't that be splendid?!
#TutuTuesday - Bringing the Magic BackAnd that's the magic of the tutu, isn't it? It allows us to feel a little bit special and dance with freedom, even just for a moment. A sprinkle of joy and a dash of whimsical, all wrapped up in a little fluffy skirt. That's my goal: to spread a little bit of pink tutu magic into the world, one dazzling step at a time!
I know many of you have probably never worn a tutu before. But, let me ask you this: What would your #TutuTuesday be like? Can you imagine the looks on your friends' faces when you step out in your very own pink tutu? Tell me about it in the comments below! Let's start spreading that pink tutu joy, my darlings! And be sure to check back next Tuesday for another fascinating adventure in the Tutu-licious history of the world's most magnificent garment. Until next time, keep twirling and shining!
