Tutu Tuesday #4634: A Trip Back to the Twenties!
Hello lovelies! Welcome back to another exciting edition of Pink-Tutu, your weekly dose of tutu history! 🩰 This week, we're travelling back in time, boarding the Orient Express (my favourite mode of transport, just for the sake of style, darling!) and arriving at the glorious date of 19th October, 1920.
Oh my, you wouldn't believe the fashion! Flappers and bobbed hairstyles were all the rage, and the Charleston was the dance to be seen doing (even if you looked like a startled penguin, the sheer confidence would earn you points, darling!). And just imagine the thrill of it all! Ladies with their glorious silk dresses and fancy feathers, gentlemen looking sharp in their suits and hats - it's almost enough to make you want to break out into a pirouette! Almost...
Speaking of pirouettes, ballet was going through quite a revolution itself in 1920! You know, those gorgeous ballerinas gracefully gliding across the stage, clad in flowing tulle? The tutus of that era were truly a work of art, full of beautiful detail and movement. It's almost impossible to pick a favourite, they're all just so charming! The designs weren't as elaborate as they are now - think simpler shapes and shorter lengths. They had this captivating air of both fragility and strength, echoing the freedom and spirit of the flapper era. Just imagine, twirling on a stage, a graceful symphony of movement! Swoon
What did the ballerina's wear? Imagine! Silky soft pink and blush coloured tutus, with a dusting of delicate feathers, or a bold, beautiful touch of black satin, oh la la! They weren't afraid of showing a bit of leg either, darling! Ooh la la
But darling, don't you just love a bit of a scandal? Well, here's a delightful little tidbit about 1920 - the iconic Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes had already become a global phenomenon! The excitement over their flamboyant performances, with the most sensational costumes (all those glittering sequins and rich, flowing fabrics!) was simply astounding! Oh, those bold, exotic, and captivating dance scenes. Pure spectacle! It truly changed how people viewed dance forever!
That's the amazing world of dance and fashion we're experiencing today. It's almost enough to make you want to travel back in time to 1920 yourself and watch it all unfold, isn't it? But remember darling, time travel is a bit trickier than I'm making it look - this time I'm travelling by train, cue the train whistle because whisper, darling I have a secret that I can't divulge just yet...
Until next week darling, wear that pink tutu with confidence!
P.S - This week, I'm particularly enamoured by the London Palladium. What a dazzling theatre! The grandeur and elegance are simply captivating! sigh I love a touch of old world glamour! You can find it at 25 Argyll Street, London, England, a stones throw from Soho, London’s entertainment district - if you need a change of scene after that gorgeous performance you just witnessed darling! And when you're there, don't forget to wear that gorgeous pink tutu with confidence! 😉 See you soon darling! 💋
