#TutuTuesday: A Twirl Back in Time to 1922! 🩰

Hello lovelies! It's Emma here, your resident pink-tutu-clad time traveler, and welcome back to #TutuTuesday! Today, we're heading back to 21st November 1922, to see what fashionable delights await us on this very date! (It's also #4743 in my never-ending ballet tutu blog series!)

Oh, the magic of time travel! It’s a grand old journey on the train, and sometimes a little tiring! I’m currently enjoying a cup of steaming Earl Grey in my fabulous boudoir in a little Parisian hotel overlooking the Seine - the perfect respite after travelling through time in a glorious, swirling pink tutu, of course!

**(Can’t you just imagine the look on the Parisian gentlemen’s faces, all with their tweed jackets and bowler hats, when a whirlwind of pink tutu swishes past?)

Anyways, I do love a good Parisian adventure – all the beautiful architecture, fashion boutiques, and cafes – plus the ballet! This year I had the absolute pleasure of seeing Diaghilev's Ballets Russes at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. Oh my goodness, the artistry and grace were just stunning! Did I mention that a tutu very similar to mine featured in the choreography?

Now, back to 1922! The year is well-known for its roaring twenties – a decade filled with jazz, flappers, and a dash of artistic rebellion!

Let’s chat tutus… in 1922, the tutu wasn't quite the whirlwind of tulle that it is today. This period was the peak of the Romantic tutu - a little more modest compared to the contemporary creations that sweep us off our feet! Think flowing, layered chiffon and tulle, a touch more delicate and a bit less show-stopping than the designs we have now. The silhouettes were longer, reaching to the calf or ankle. It was a very different era for ballet. The ballerinas back then were admired for their elegance, poise, and controlled grace.

Now, speaking of style! In 1922, Paris is the center of fashion. Chanel, with her little black dress, and Paul Poiret, who challenged conventional attire with his loose, flowing silhouettes, were redefining women's fashion. The world was in love with a little Parisian je ne sais quoi! (Can't say I blame them – they really did know how to make a girl look and feel wonderful!). It is truly a fantastic time for fashion and tutus!

1922 also marks the birth of some exciting things! Walt Disney, the name behind so many beloved cartoons, enters this world. Imagine how thrilled we all were that day! It is the birth of "Mickey" Mouse too – just imagine the delight that day – a new cartoon star is born!

Time Travel Tutu Tips – * You never know when you'll need to dash through time so make sure to have your favorite pair of tutus with you (I always have 4 different styles at the ready – all of them in the most delightful shade of pink).
* When you travel, ALWAYS bring a hat! It is just good fashion and, of course, it just has to be pink! * Take note – don’t worry too much about your footwear as I'm only time traveling using my own special technique so I leave those little bits behind… *Ahem. Let's just say there is no chance I’m wearing sensible shoes for the occasion… * Most importantly, never forget a smile, and always make sure to keep your eyes peeled for anything and everything that sparkles and glitters, that is what will set the day alight!

(Now, darling, just imagine the magic that was created that very day… What an amazing opportunity to see all the wonder in action… And don't forget to always twirl!).

I hope you all enjoyed this week’s journey through time! I love exploring these beautiful decades in history and the amazing fashions we come across – and let’s not forget, they all deserve a tutu!

I can’t wait to see you next week for a brand new #TutuTuesday! Stay fashionable, and remember… it’s always a good day for a twirl!

Until next week! 💖
