#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 13th February 1923 (Post 4755!)

Hello, darling tutus! It's your favourite pink-clad ballerina blogger, Emma, back for another trip into the past! This week, I've zipped myself right back to 1923, a year brimming with exciting happenings in the world of ballet. Hold onto your tiaras, my lovelies, as we dive into the sartorial delights of the past.

The first thing you must know about this era is that, well, tutus weren't quite what they are today! Imagine a bit of tulle, yes, but more flowing and layered, and with some serious silk underlining. Think deconstructed tutu, but utterly glamorous. The fabric? Ah, that was an important point. Silk, chiffon, velvet, they all swished and danced on the stage with the ballerinas! We're talking a rainbow of colours, darling, and oh, those vibrant, rich tones โ€“ they just sing to my sartorial heart!

Today is 13th February 1923, and just a few months ago, the London stage was graced with the legendary Nijinsky! Oh, the artistry, the passion, the movement! Just picturing those leaps and turns fills me with awe! His tutus, for all the stories of them being different from the norm, would have still been, well, exquisite! Silk and movement, a touch of the avant-garde. A feast for the eyes, wouldn't you say?

I've taken a peek at the shows playing today, and there's a beautiful staging of Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" at the Royal Opera House in London! It wouldn't have been the "Swan Lake" as we know it now, mind you. More traditional and, oh, a little bit dramatic. Imagine those elaborate costumes, my dears! Layers and layers of tulle, adorned with swansdown, feathers, oh, just picture the glorious swishing!

But before we go rushing out to see the show, I must tell you, I just had the most fantastic adventure! I popped into the Liberty department store on London's Regent Street โ€“ a wonderland of silks and sequins! Honestly, I must've wandered around for an hour, just feeling the fabric and imagining what magical tutus could be crafted from it. A little slice of paradise for a tutu-loving blogger, I say!

Now, where are the hot chocolate and bonbons? I'm ready to tell you all about my time travel escapades โ€“ where I found the best pink teacup in an antique shop in Covent Garden, had an afternoon cream tea, and a most delightful, most unforgettable carriage ride through the streets of London.

Don't forget, dear ones, there's nothing quite like the enchantment of ballet, and I'm on a mission to inspire everyone to wear pink tutus! I believe everyone should twirl! Join me in this mission, and be sure to visit again next Tuesday for another exciting #TutuTuesday journey. See you next week, darlings!
