#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: February 12th, 1924 - The Twirling Twenties!

Hello my lovely Tutu-licious readers! It's Emma, your favourite pink-clad, tutu-loving time traveller, bringing you another dose of ballet history for your #TutuTuesday!

This week, I've hopped on the Orient Express (because, let's face it, the journey is half the fun!) and landed in the vibrant heart of Paris, France, where ballet reigns supreme. We're talking 1924, a year filled with flapper dresses, Charleston dances and, of course, stunning ballet performances!

Now, I'm all about fashion and seeing the newest designs in ballet wear. Back then, the fashion was shifting like the leaves in an autumnal wind. While the traditional long, romantic tutu of the 19th century was still popular, there were exciting changes afoot. The tutu, you see, was starting to become more... dynamic.

Just imagine the energy of a 1924 Parisian ballet studio! You've got a mixture of students, ballerinas and even a few bold, fashion-forward socialites with their noses pressed against the glass. It's all about movement, fluidity and graceful lines - and the tutu reflects that.

Think shorter tutus, some even barely covering their knees. Picture wispy, diaphanous fabrics fluttering with each pirouette. This is the dawn of a new age for ballet tutus. A time of streamlined elegance, with designs becoming lighter, airier, and less rigid than the past.

Imagine it, dear reader - a ballet dancer leaping high above the stage, her silken tutu flowing like a silken ribbon around her, a modern marvel! It was this shift in style that was catching the eye of fashionistas and drawing audiences into the wonder of ballet.

And speaking of drawing audiences... on this very date, 12th February 1924, The Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow presented the very first production of "Romeo and Juliet," a timeless tale set to music by none other than the legendary Sergei Prokofiev. I tell you, it must have been absolutely spectacular! Imagine the romantic twirls and heartfelt drama!

I'm just picturing those intricate dances with a splash of pink in the tutus - cue the romantic sighing!

What to wear: This time period calls for the "Belle ร‰poque" look, ladies! If you're at home, it's time for the iconic layered petticoats underneath your classic romantic tutu, creating the epitome of Victorian elegance. Add a silk blouse, some delicately detailed lace, and of course, that chic hat with a flourish of feathers to match your tutu, and voila! You're the perfect image of feminine beauty from a bygone era!

I, of course, will be sporting my favourite pink tutu! My signature colour, because we need to embrace the vibrancy and joyful femininity in all things, right? Pink is the perfect way to channel the elegant yet playful attitude of the Twenties. Think bold, be bold, embrace your feminine power!

Until next week, darlings,
