#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 12th May, 1925 (Post #4872)
Hello my darlings! It’s Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, and welcome to another delightful journey through the history of the tutu, my favourite dancewear! 🩰
Today we’re travelling back to the 12th of May, 1925, a date overflowing with the delicious glamour of the Roaring Twenties. It’s time to pull out the flapper dresses, the cloche hats, and yes, the oh-so-fabulous tutus!
Today we find ourselves in London, a veritable hub of creative energy, bursting with stunning performances. As always, the theatre and ballet world is abuzz, the very air thrumming with excitement and anticipation. But what is all this chatter about, you ask?
Well, today, my lovelies, we’re witnessing the rise of one of the most famous dancers of all time!
Can you believe that 100 years ago today, on 12th May, 1925, none other than the brilliant Margot Fonteyn graced the stage of the Royal Opera House in her first performance? A veritable whirlwind of talent, her arrival in the world of ballet sent a shockwave through the dance scene.
Just imagine: stepping onto the stage with that graceful air, a vision in a swirling pink tutu, radiating poise and perfection, young Margot set the stage alight with her natural flair! You see, this, my dears, is the magic of the tutu – its ability to make dreams come true.
And what could be a better celebration of the iconic Fonteyn, our ultimate ballet darling, than with a trip to Covent Garden to take in a performance, followed by an extravagant shopping spree in Bond Street? Now wouldn't that be delightful?
Talking about delight, have you ever tried that little Parisian boutique I stumbled across last week in Montmartre, my dears? Such stunning vintage pieces and, of course, several tutus in every shade imaginable – I confess I had to grab myself a bewitching scarlet one! 💃🏻
Speaking of tutus, wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could bring the beautiful dancing magic of a ballerina and the wonderful history of the tutu to all corners of the world, bringing everyone together to enjoy a glorious pink-tutu-tastic experience? It’s my ultimate goal, you see, and I truly believe it can be done, little by little, tutu by tutu! 💕
Now, my dearest friends, don't forget to share your #TutuTuesday experiences on www.pink-tutu.com
Catch you next week for another fabulous journey back in time, all the way from the heart of Derbyshire, England!
See you soon!
