Tutu Tuesday #4873: Back to 1925 with a Pink, Pink, Pink Tutu!
Hello my darlings! Emma here, your ever-so-slightly-obsessed-with-tutus-and-pink blogger, bringing you another installment of #TutuTuesday! This week, we're travelling back in time to a rather fabulous era: 1925!
Ooh, 1925! Imagine, ladies, a world buzzing with flapper dresses, short bobs, and the jazzy rhythms of the Charleston! Now picture it all with a delightful sprinkle of ballet magic – the elegant moves, the flowing tulle, the sheer romance! This is where my pink tutu shines, darlings, and today I'm wearing a soft, delicate creation – a true embodiment of that 1920s charm.
The trains from Derbyshire are such a delight! The carriages are so glamorous, plush and inviting, with plush seating and dainty, little compartments. It really feels like the setting for a scene out of a classic Hollywood movie, doesn't it? I must say, though, travelling through this magical era, my love of pink tutus has been put to the test! While we can't go wrong with pink now, this era favoured bold, rich colours – deep crimson, emerald green, and luxurious navy.
Speaking of bold, the Ballets Russes were the big deal in 1925. These are the people who brought ballet into the spotlight and gave us so much to love – the dazzling colours, the dramatic music, and that dramatic flair we still enjoy today! Did you know that the founder, Sergei Diaghilev, actually inspired so many designers with his vibrant colours? Oh, imagine those outfits - they would just make you twirl in delight!
My trip to Paris is already packed with exciting encounters and fabulous discoveries. The city feels like it is overflowing with inspiration and innovation! Every day, there seems to be a new avant-garde artistic creation, new dance form, new style. But there is also so much of the "old world", too, with the chic cafés, the charming boudoirs, and of course the exquisite ballet performances! I caught the most spectacular Les Sylphides performance at the Théâtre de l'Opéra-Comique earlier today. The dance itself is an absolute dream - so flowing, graceful, and simply ethereal. All in a delicate, diaphanous pink costume that shimmered like spun moonlight – pure bliss!
Don't worry darlings, I have a little confession – I managed to sneak a pink tutu into this era too, just to spread a little of that lovely "Pink Power" vibe! While it wasn't exactly the usual fashion of the day, let me tell you – it caused quite a stir!
But what happened on May 19th, 1925? Oh my, a truly fabulous event! That very day, at the beautiful Opéra de Monte Carlo, the Ballets Russes premiered their most acclaimed creation – "Le Sacre du Printemps", known by all as The Rite of Spring. Oh, the costumes, darling! Absolutely iconic! The use of sharp lines, powerful colour combinations and shocking themes. Oh my, this was definitely an era of audacious choices in costumes! It was an amazing blend of beautiful movement and dynamic, exciting choreography! Oh darling, it would be an insult to the "Rite of Spring" if we weren't dancing and feeling as bold and powerful as these costumes, now wouldn't it? Perhaps my next tutu might be a little less soft, with an element of sharp, bold colour, you know, a tribute to the power of that performance!
Oh my darling, 1925! This era was simply brimming with exciting discoveries. We saw the Ballets Russes make history, inspiring everything from our modern ballet costumes to the most iconic theatrical creations in the world! They gave us the bold spirit we have now, but don't forget the graceful beauty too - remember that "Les Sylphides" costume with the delicate shimmer - now there's something truly stunning! This is my beloved world – ballet and fashion – together and always inspiring! So come on darlings, make this week a "pink-tutu-themed" celebration of the bold spirit and graceful gracefulness of 1925.
