#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 27th December 1927 - Post #5009

Hello darlings! Welcome back to my #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History blog on www.pink-tutu.com! I hope you’re all well and are looking fabulous in your pink tutus.

Today's blog is very special. We are stepping back in time (literally! I'm a bit of a time-travelling aficionado - just imagine the gorgeous vintage fashions!), and joining our tutu-loving ancestors on 27th December 1927, exactly 95 years ago! I travelled back via train (of course!) wearing my newest pink tutu - you wouldn’t believe the vintage pieces I find in those old railway stations.

It’s always a treat travelling back to this era! It was an absolute delight seeing what tutu-trends were sweeping across Europe! The elegant ballerinas were all sporting delicate silk and tulle creations, some with shimmering embellishments and feathers - absolutely divine! Think "Swan Lake", think "Sleeping Beauty" - oh, such romance. Imagine all that delicate tulle billowing as they leaped and twirled across the stage. Pure magic, I tell you.

Did you know that this is when the “Classical Ballet Era” took hold, darling?

You’ve got to see how stunning they looked, all decked out in their glorious tulle creations. I took loads of photos for you to see, which will be up later today in our tutu-filled gallery, along with a list of my absolute favourite pieces from the time!

Of course, you can’t have the glamorous “classical ballet” era without some amazing performances. And what was taking the stage by storm on this very date? The one and only Sergei Diaghilev’s “Ballets Russes”, right here in London! (Yes, that London – still my all-time favourite city!) I went to the London Coliseum. What a magnificent spectacle - the costumes were to die for! So vibrant, bold and totally on trend. Just divine.

Speaking of Trends…

London has been at the heart of everything exciting, especially fashion. Oh my word, there are so many incredible places to go shopping here! One of my all-time favourite places was Harrods (I know you all love a bit of Harrods). There, you could find the most breathtaking range of silks, chiffons, satins - absolutely the dream material for the perfect pink tutu! I've always been a fan of the dramatic silhouette, which, happily, the dresses of the 1920s offered, with their bias cuts and flowing lines. Oh my, that's such a heavenly shape when combined with the soft tulle and a dash of sequins... It's what dreams are made of, my darlings!

Speaking of dreams, wouldn't it be lovely to join me for one of those lovely Ballet Street performances they had on the street, maybe in Kensington? It would be utterly thrilling to see the performers dancing around in the heart of this wonderful city! And just imagine the reaction, you wouldn't see that many pink tutus at that time!

Oh my word, wouldn't it be splendid to dance in a “Classical Ballet Era” production myself? That's what my dreams are made of! I know it sounds mad, but that is a genuine hope I have, darling. To bring a touch of vintage style to the modern stage, just as all my incredible Tutu Tuesday ancestors did. It would be an absolute joy to channel that "ballet chic"!

But for now, I’ve gotta be off! More ballet and tutu history awaits me. And hey, if you're going to a ballet, be sure to make it a grand affair with your own glamorous pink tutu. That's what the Ballets Russes era was all about - putting on a show!

Remember, if you want to be kept in the loop with all things #TutuTuesday and my time travels, don't forget to follow me on my website and Instagram @pinktutu. I love sharing my love for all things pink and ballet. Until next Tuesday, keep it fabulous, my darling, and stay sparkly!

Yours truly, Emma
