Tutu Tuesday: #5010 - A Century of Swirling Fabric - Let's Go Back to 1928!
Hey my fellow twirlers, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! It's your favourite day of the week - Tutu Tuesday! - and Iโm just itching to share the latest ballet-tastic tutu journey with you!
Today's voyage through time whisks us back to the shimmering, vibrant era of 1928. Can you believe that was almost a whole century ago? ๐คฏ That's a LOT of tutus swirling around on stages all over the world!
Now, let's talk tutus, my darlings! In 1928, ballet tutus were still undergoing a revolutionary makeover. Gone were the romanticist long tutus of the past. Instead, designers like Lรฉon Bakst were championing lighter, more practical designs, which emphasized movement and graceful lines. Imagine tiny, fluttery layers, just like delicate petals swaying in the breeze, skimming the dancers' legs. This revolutionary change reflected the new era of movement and modernity, which swept across Europe and the globe.
You see, 1928 was a time of massive change in art and culture. In fact, this is the very year The Ballet Russes, led by the flamboyant Serge Diaghilev, were putting on some absolutely spectacular shows in Paris. This troupe of talented dancers was breaking barriers and experimenting with new and innovative ballet styles that influenced choreographers and designers across the world. Their dazzling performances had audiences enthralled by colourful costumes and innovative choreographic forms - that were bold, dramatic, and a bit dangerous - just like my favourite shades of pink!
Now, you might be wondering what my tutu choice for this era would be. Let's get a little daring, darlings! Iโm envisioning a beautiful ballet tutu with multiple, short layers of shimmery pink tulle. The layered effect would echo the modern, vibrant styles of the time. To add a little je ne sais quoi and extra-tutu sparkle, I would layer this delicate, romantic tutu with bold geometric shapes and accents, perhaps a beautiful embroidered pattern, that references the geometric art forms popular at the time. Oh la la, the pink of perfect! ๐ซ
While my travel-in-time train ticket doesn't quite take me back to the Ballet Russes in their Paris prime, I do make time to attend as many classic performances as possible - from my hometown of Derbyshire to grand venues like Covent Garden and the Bolshoi.
One of my most memorable ballet journeys took me all the way to Monte Carlo! ๐ Just the thought of this glittering gem of a city and its exceptional ballets has my tutu heart soaring.
Let's not forget the importance of a stylish ensemble to go with our pink ballet tutu. What would you pair with your 1928 inspired ensemble? I would consider a stunning flapper style dress with delicate, bead-studded embellishments.
But for me, shopping and fashion are always on the menu - wherever my tutu travels. It's simply the best way to capture the unique spirit and elegance of each era! And, let's face it, we can always find a new reason to buy more sparkly shoes!
But that's a whole other topic! Now, until next week, darling!
Stay pink and tutu-tiful,
Emma. ๐
