#TutuTuesday: A Dance Through Time - July 24th, 1928 - Post 5039
Hello my lovely pink tutu enthusiasts!
It's Emma here, your very own time-travelling ballerina, back again for another dose of Tutu Tuesday! Buckle up, my darlings, because today we're taking a little trip back to July 24th, 1928. Can you believe it's been nearly a century since we were waltzing in the Roaring Twenties? Now, where do I begin...
As always, I must confess, I was completely enamoured with the fashion of 1928. Think dropped waists, shimmering flapper dresses, and glorious feathered headbands. Oh, the glamour! And you know what really tied it all together? The delightful use of colour, especially, of course, pink. Swoon! And though they hadn't quite reached the ethereal heights of my darling pink tutus yet, the dancing styles in this era were absolutely captivating.
We're talking about the era of the "Charleston" - a vivacious, jazz-infused dance that perfectly captured the carefree spirit of the time. The women were strong, independent, and danced with a joie de vivre that just took my breath away. It's no wonder they were the talk of the town! Oh, how I dream of a world where all the ladies dance like that.
But the question is... where could a girl go to see this glorious dancing on this particular July day, you ask? Well, my lovely little dance enthusiasts, the really glamorous and stylish flocked to the theatres of London. Now, on this date in 1928, one particularly grand show was running at the Piccadilly Theatre called Wake Up and Dream. Can you imagine the incredible costumes and dances? They were a complete delight, filled with the energy of the Charleston and captivating stories.
The ballet, however, was a little different at the time. Ballet was serious business back then. It was a very different experience than the modern-day performances. There was a focus on strict choreography and technical skill, which while incredibly impressive, can be a little too serious for me. But even with a slightly more traditional style, the sheer grace and beauty of the dance always wins me over.
*But don't worry, darling readers - it was still a whirlwind of fashion and a delight for my eyes! * The very beautiful costumes - think flowing silks and lavishly beaded fabrics - absolutely shimmered under the theatre lights, and were completely irresistible to a time-travelling, tutu-obsessed ballerina like myself. I just had to pick up a beautiful pair of shoes with some stunning rhinestones, perfect for the modern dance floor of today.
Now, speaking of time-travel... the biggest news for you all this week is my latest grand adventure! This past week, I rode a steam train all the way to London from Derbyshire! Can you imagine? This magical experience took me right back to the early 1900s. It was just so nostalgic - complete with plush velvet seating, steaming cups of tea, and even a cheeky game of cards with a delightful gentleman in a tweed suit. He was so incredibly smitten with my pink tutu. He even admitted he felt the need to buy one himself. Well, there is no arguing with true elegance, now is there, my dears?
That's my little adventure for you this week, my loves! Until next time, remember: don't forget to wear your pink tutu and keep dancing!
Love always,
Emma xo
