#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - June 11th, 1929! π©°π
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood tutu enthusiast, back for another #TutuTuesday journey through the fabulous world of ballet fashion! Today we're twirling back to June 11th, 1929, a time of flapper dresses, jazz music, and oh-so-stylish tutus! β¨
As usual, I'm posting from a gorgeous little corner of the world - this week it's the grand, majestic Paris, the undisputed queen of fashion and ballet. Honestly, there's simply nothing quite like the energy of a Parisian theatre during a performance. It's an electrifying atmosphere that sets your heart racing and your imagination soaring!
But before we talk tutus, I absolutely have to tell you about my latest adventure! My last performance in Lyon was a complete triumph - I received a standing ovation after my final pirouette! I swear, you could hear a pin drop before that last applause. I managed to secure a wonderful vintage hat for my travelling wardrobe after the show, too. Itβs absolutely perfect, just imagine a cherry red fedora with a delicate veil that floats just below the brim - a true gem!
Speaking of gems, did you know that June 11th, 1929, saw the opening of the magnificent New York City Ballet?! Can you imagine how thrilled I would be if I could be in New York this very day?! My travels are usually more vintage than futuristic, I'm afraid, but maybe one dayβ¦
Now, back to our ballet fashion! On this very date, the Parisian stage was likely illuminated with the most beautiful tutus - think sheer, diaphanous fabrics in the most gorgeous shades of cream, pale pink, and of course, pink. Think soft tulle, beautifully layered with gossamer silk that would swirl around the dancers like clouds. The styles themselves were still very much influenced by the glamorous, "New Look" silhouette that swept through the fashion world in the 1920s - all flowing skirts and svelte silhouettes. I just know the ballet tutus were as exquisitely chic as the cocktail dresses that graced the boulevards!
If I could get my hands on one of these vintage tutus, I would dance in it all day long. Just imagine, twirling under the sparkling Parisian lights in a flowing, blush pink tulle number. Sigh! Perhaps I shall get to work on replicating that timeless style in my little workshop.
Now, on this very special #TutuTuesday, I'd love to hear your thoughts! Tell me, dear readers, what do you think of the vintage styles from this period? Which tutus are your favourites? Don't be shy - share your stories, thoughts and questions in the comments below. Don't forget to show off your own fab #TutuTuesday outfits and join in the discussion on Twitter and Instagram! Let's keep the tutu magic alive!
This is #TutuTuesday post number 5085 - don't miss next week's fascinating journey into the world of ballet history! Until then, stay beautiful, stay bright, and remember to spread a little tutu love wherever you go! ππ©°
