Tutu Tuesday: #5144 - A Whirl Through the 1930s!

Hello my darlings! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, where we take a twirl through time and explore the glorious history of the tutu. It’s Tuesday, so you know what that means… Tutu Tuesday! Grab your tea and a slice of Victoria sponge, and let’s dance into the past!

This week, we're skipping back to July 29th, 1930. The air is abuzz with excitement in the dance world as "The Sleeping Beauty" premiered at the Royal Opera House in London. The London Symphony Orchestra filled the house with their enchanting music, setting the perfect atmosphere for this timeless tale. I can just picture the hushed anticipation as the curtain rose, revealing the breathtaking costumes and the artistry of the Royal Ballet. It was a magical event, and just the type of ballet I'd go giddy for if I had been alive back then. Imagine the intricate designs, the delicate embroidery!

Now, you might be thinking, “What about the tutus? Emma, how could you not talk about the tutus?!”

Don’t you worry! I wouldn't leave out the fabulous fashions. You see, the 1930s were a fascinating time for ballet tutus! While the classical Romantic tutus were still prevalent – imagine a glorious cloud of tulle - there was a growing trend toward more structured, geometric styles. Designers began to experiment with shorter lengths, sometimes creating an effect that was quite modern. I've even seen some of these tutus that embraced bold colours and even some that included the latest textile innovations! And yes, even though pink was less dominant in the colour palette at this time, there was always a splash of pink somewhere – the tulle could have a hint of pink in the shade, or perhaps the design featured pink embroidery. It all comes down to personal expression!

For my personal wardrobe in the 1930s, I’d have embraced the more modern, streamlined designs. A beautiful ivory tutu, cut just above the knee, adorned with delicate beading – I'd absolutely be the picture of elegance on the stage. For offstage? Well, I’m quite sure a pink version of the same design would be perfect for lunch at a grand tea room with the other ladies. Imagine a long, shimmering scarf flowing behind us, tied just so at the neck, and of course, a little pair of pumps to match! Oh, to have a whole closet of these fabulous tutus!

Fun Fact! Did you know the 1930s saw the development of the “American Tutu”, designed with a flexible waistband that allows ballerinas to execute complex turns more easily? It's a brilliant example of how design innovation can improve performance.

Speaking of innovation, did I tell you about my latest project? My grand vision! I’ve always thought that a touch of pink tutu magic could add some joy to every single day. * That’s why I’m trying to convince people everywhere to join my movement and wear pink tutus in their everyday lives! Think about it: *imagine the colour and the charm of a pink tutu against the mundane gray of the city. Or a pink tutu in the countryside, against the beautiful landscape – a truly breathtaking combination! Just think about all the beautiful things in the world, and then add a dash of pink, with the delicate charm of a tutu... pure perfection, I tell you!

So, for next week's Tutu Tuesday, why not make it extra special by wearing a pink tutu yourself? It could be a classic tulle number, a whimsical handmade piece, or even a simple pink ribbon tied around your waist. Embrace the magic, darling! It might seem silly at first, but trust me – the smile you’ll get on your face will be well worth it.

Until next time, darlings, remember to wear pink!

Your pink-tutu-loving friend, Emma
