#TutuTuesday: A Glimpse Into 1931! 🩰

Hello my darling Tutu-lovers! 💖 It's your favourite pink-tutu-wearing time traveller, Emma, back again for another dazzling #TutuTuesday adventure. Buckle up your ballet slippers, we're whisking away to 1931 for a peek at the beautiful ballet tutus of the past!

Post #5217 – A Blast From The Past!

I just adore traveling through time, it's the most wonderful way to see how the tutu has evolved! Today we're hopping aboard a glamorous train journey – remember those incredible carriage-like interiors with plush velvet seating and brass accents? – to find ourselves amidst the swirling elegance of 1931, a time when ballet was taking center stage, and oh darling, so were the tutus!

I'm wearing a fabulously pink, voluminous tulle tutu that would be right at home on the grand stages of the time, paired with my trusty pair of pink ballet slippers, of course! And wouldn't you know it, my love of pink just fits perfectly with the fashion trends of the 1930s. Pastel shades were all the rage – think dreamy lavender, delicate blush, and vibrant mint greens. Can you imagine? A kaleidoscope of colour dancing on stage!

Today, 22nd of December, was actually a significant day for ballet! The Russian Ballet company, led by the illustrious Sergei Diaghilev, were showcasing their dazzling performance of “La Boutique Fantasque” at the famous Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. The beautiful designs in that ballet were just heavenly – think intricately layered, pastel-toned tutus adorned with feathers, sequins, and silk flowers. A visual feast, and I just have to say, my heart skips a beat thinking about it. Imagine the shimmering costumes against a beautifully lit stage, all topped with sparkling headbands. It's almost enough to make one swoon!

Fashion in the 1930s – A World of Grace and Elegance

You know me, I can’t resist a little trip to the shops when I time travel. The fashion of the 1930s was just as enchanting as the tutus themselves. Ladies were embracing slim silhouettes, soft fabrics, and luxurious details. Think flowing gowns with delicate ruffles, elegant knee-length dresses, and feminine hats with veils – the kind of headwear that could make any girl feel like a princess. I especially loved their stylish evening gowns - a world of silk, satin and stunning beads. Imagine a full-length beaded gown shimmering on a glamorous 1930s gala, the perfect attire for a grand evening.

A Ballet Revolution!

The ballet world in the 1930s was bustling with energy and innovation. New choreographers and dancers were pushing boundaries, while classical ballet techniques continued to flourish. In 1931, we witnessed a thrilling emergence of new ballet techniques, particularly those incorporating athleticism and grace, with the introduction of jumps and turns in pointe shoes! Oh darling, how wonderful, it was like the tutu came to life.

Just imagine – the delicate wisps of tulle swirling in time with the leaps and turns of the dancers. It truly was a spectacle! I couldn't help but feel a deep admiration for those incredibly talented dancers and their elegant tutus.

A Journey of Inspiration

These travels through time are always so inspiring! It's incredible to see how fashion and the ballet world have evolved throughout history. Yet, the grace and elegance of the tutus remain. Even now, I wear my own custom-made tutus everywhere – to the theatre, to ballet classes, even to the market, yes, even when I pop to my local Derbyshire butcher’s to pick up sausages. Every time I twirl in a tutu, it brings back memories of my time travel journeys, the grand stages I've seen, and the ballerinas who have danced before me. It makes me feel connected to a world of art and passion.

Don't forget to head over to my website, www.pink-tutu.com to read more of my time travel tales. And while you're there, let me know what time period you’d love to hear about! Maybe next week, I'll whisk you to 18th-century Paris or maybe a glimpse into 21st-century ballet... But remember, dear readers, let’s keep on dancing! Let's wear our tutus proudly, whether they are full length and pink, or simple and understated – there’s a tutu for every occasion!

Until next #TutuTuesday, darlings,

With twirls and sparkles,

Emma
