#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post 5243!
Hiya lovely ladies! 🩰
It's Emma here, back with another #TutuTuesday dive into the fabulous world of tutus! I've just been whizzing through time (the train journey was a tad long, even with my best travel-tutu) and I've landed in the magical world of 1932! Ooh, it’s exciting! So many lovely colours and a wee bit of glitz. I'm so ready to share with you some incredible discoveries!
Today is June 21st, and we're about to explore the world of the ballet tutu!
Today's story is all about… well, the most gorgeous outfits ever – tutus of course! Who knew, in 1932 the world was already embracing the magic of tulle and fluffy, fabulousness! ✨ I’m totally wearing my best pink tulle tutu - it’s simply divine and such a joy to twirl in! 💖
I was actually surprised to discover that the classic "Romantic" tutu, with its wispy layers and short length, was starting to gain its own unique character! Ballet, it seems, was all about embracing lightness and fluidity. Just like a beautiful dream, or the fluttering of a ballerina's skirt. 🤩
And talking about ballerinas… what about those incredible costumes! In the 1930s, they weren't just tutus. They were little works of art. Some are even trimmed with pearls and shimmering jewels – wow! Talk about giving an outfit some sparkle! This was such an incredible era for ballet design, just a real explosion of colour and imagination. And trust me, with the amazing ballerinas around like Tamara Karsavina and Anna Pavlova dancing in these exquisite outfits - no wonder audiences were going absolutely wild! 🩰🌟
One thing I did find truly fascinating - how ballet was gaining in popularity all over the world! Think Paris, London, New York, and even places further afield. Imagine being transported to a different world of beauty and elegance, just through a beautiful performance! The music, the costumes, the movement - it was pure magic. And you know what? I think the tutu had something to do with it! The graceful flutter of tulle - that's enough to draw in anyone! 💖
Now, in London, Sadler's Wells (it wasn’t called The Peacock just yet) was beginning to really shine - I’m thinking that Tutu Tuesday needs to take a trip there and give them a dance lesson! There's nothing I love more than discovering a little-known piece of ballet history. ✨
On this date back in 1932, it appears the most sensational news was that *The Russian Ballet had their opening performance at the Kingsway Theatre. Now, that would have been a tutu-tastic show to see! I just adore these extraordinary, dramatic, and beautiful events. I mean, talk about glamorous – how’s that for an evening of entertainment! Imagine, a magical combination of dazzling tutus, thrilling choreography, and world-famous dancers… it just sounds phenomenal! 😍
But, like all journeys, my trip through time is coming to an end. As I zip back to my time, I’m wondering where this incredible journey will take me next? Will it be the roaring 1920s? Maybe even to 18th-century Paris, to explore the first tutus, made from... well... from a different tulle material that we would never recognise today! And let's not forget, a few decades ago, people did not travel in a time machine! And let me tell you, travel by train is not always comfortable... especially in your pinkest tulle tutu! I am all for embracing style, no matter how far I travel! But hey, that's my passion! I adore those romantic and airy layers that define the magic of a ballerina's wardrobe! 💖
That’s my tutu tales for this week! Do let me know what you thought about it, and let’s share some fun ideas for next Tutu Tuesday ! And I mean, if you have a beautiful and pink tutu why not pop in some photos on social media, tag it #pink-tutu, and show me yours! Don't forget to follow me, as I discover more fabulous history for the love of tutus and everything pink! 💗
Now, go forth and spread the love of pink and beautiful tutus, ladies! It's time to find that perfect tutu that reflects you, because there's a magic waiting for every lady, out there, waiting to be revealed!
Your dearest time-travelling pink-tutu ballerina,
Emma 💖 🩰 ✨
