Tutu Tuesday #5271: A Blast From The Past (and a Very Pink One!)
Hello my lovely Tutu Tribe!
Itās me, Emma, your resident tutu enthusiast and time-travelling ballerina! This Tuesday, we're going right back to the beginning of 1933, a glorious era of dance, glamour, andā¦ you guessed it!ā¦ PINK tutus!
Iāve just whizzed back from a little jaunt toā¦ (wait for it)ā¦ Paris! (dramatic pause, sprinkle of glitter)
Now, I know what you're thinking, "Emma, isn't Paris all about that chic little black dress?" And you wouldnāt be wrong, dear reader, but hold onto your tiaras ā even in the roaring twenties and beyond, Paris has always had a secret love affair with the ballerina.
It's a Parisian thing, I tell you. Imagine stepping into the Salle Pleyel in 1933, the heart of French musical theatre, a sea of perfectly coiffed heads in the audience, each lady sporting the seasonās hottest shade of pink! A breathtaking sight, donāt you think?
Fashion is History ā And The Story Isā¦ Pink!
Think swirling, frothy layers of pink tulle, catching the stage lights and shimmering like spun sugar! We're talking a vision of pure femininity, my dears, with those delicate ballet shoes and, dare I say it, maybe a sprinkle of sequins or rhinestones thrown in for good measure. Oh, the magic! And just try and picture this: every single tutu had a personal touch, handcrafted with loving precision, just as unique as each ballerina who wore it. The craft, the artistry, itās enough to make even the most jaded heart swoon, donāt you think?
But Why Pink, Emma?
Excellent question, my fellow tutu-adorer! The shade pink has always held a certain mystical allure. It whispers romance, joy, and most importantly ā femininity. We can all thank Coco Chanel for championing this fabulous hue, a move that swept the world! I mean, can you imagine a Chanel-designed dress in anything BUT the colour pink? Itās impossible to even think about!
Now, For The Show!
As Iām writing this, my little pink tutu is feeling a tad wistful. It misses those grand French theatres. I just want to go back to that time, and not only wear my own stunning pink tutu ā but witness the performances themselves! Can you imagine watching legends like Olga Spessivtseva, Tamara Karsavina, or Anna Pavlova (sighā¦) in their absolute glory? You wouldnāt need a time machine, darlings, just a whole lot of imagination!
I can picture those incredible dancers in their exquisitely crafted tutus, twirling and soaring with an ethereal beauty that would make even a seasoned ballet aficionado swoon. You'd be left mesmerised, my dear Tutu Tribe, absolutely swept away in a flurry of tulle, grace, and artistry. The Grands Ballets, they truly had a magic all their own!
Tutu Trivia Corner!
1933 also saw the world premiere of the ballet āLes Sylphidesā. This hauntingly beautiful creation features dancers in long, flowing tutus, almost ethereal and otherworldly in appearance. Picture these tutus fluttering and gliding across the stage, the ultimate testament to the elegant, airy beauty that a tutu can offer. Itās the stuff of legends, and I can practically feel the goosebumps forming!
So, what's my 1933 pick? (drumroll) The exquisite pale pink tutu! This perfectly blends a dreamy soft pink, just a hint of femininity, and enough magic to make a little ballerinaās heart sing!
Call To Action!
Grab your own tutu ā any colour, really! I'm all for embracing diversity in tutu colours! And twirl with me in imagination! Dance around the living room, think about the history of this iconic garment. Imagine a time before ballet shoes were white and every ballet was full of elaborate costumes!
Donāt forget, my Tutu Tribe! The most important thing about any tutu, even a vintage one, is that you feel fabulous wearing it. Donāt worry if youāre unsure how to wear your tutu ā thatās where the magic of #TutuTuesday comes in. Weāre a family, ready to support each other, celebrate dance, and maybe even learn a thing or two about fashion along the way.
Until next week, darling Tutu Tribe! Donāt forget to keep your tutu-tastic spirit alive. I'm off to find my next pink dream!
