Tutu Tuesday: 1933 - A Dance Through Time!

Welcome back, dear tutu lovers! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, ready to whisk you back to another enchanting era! Today's #TutuTuesday journey takes us to December 19th, 1933, a time when the world of ballet was bursting with elegance and grace, just like the beautiful tutus we adore!

Before we embark on this thrilling time warp, I just had to share some exciting news! This is blog post number 5321 - can you believe it? Over five thousand posts exploring the history of our beloved ballet tutus. It makes my heart pirouette with joy!

As usual, I'm taking a delightful trip by train, all thanks to a performance last night in the Royal Opera House. I absolutely adore those beautiful, elaborate sets. They make the most gorgeous background for a photo shoot! Speaking of photos, let's dive into this glorious era!

1933 - The Glamour of Ballet

The year 1933 was a year of dazzling displays on stage! It was the time of legendary ballerinas like Anna Pavlova and Tamara Karsavina, who, with their exquisite grace and technical mastery, truly captivated audiences. Ballet had truly reached its golden age!

Did you know? Tutus in this period were primarily tulle - lightweight and dreamy! I’m obsessed with tulle, it's the most heavenly fabric! Imagine the flutter and movement, oh, so magical! Of course, we always need a bit of drama, right? And that's why tutus back then often featured feathers and sequins, just adding that extra sparkle!

A Tutu Tailored for Style:

Tutus weren't just worn on stage. The fashion influence of ballet was so strong that, you wouldn't believe it, tutus even crept into everyday life! That's right! Young women often donned playful versions of the ballet skirt, making a splash with their carefree fashion.

Think of tulle skirts worn with stylish sweaters or tailored blouses, oh so chic! Just imagine the fabulous, flirty vibes. The world was in love with the elegance and romanticism of the dance, and fashion truly reflected that!

A Night of Sparkling Theatre:

Imagine, 19th December 1933, and we are heading to the London Palladium! It's a magical night filled with song, dance, and laughter, with one of the most incredible performers of all time taking the stage: Fred Astaire! Can you even imagine? The swing, the elegance, the charisma! And it wasn't just a musical show! There was ballet, too! The Palladium hosted ballet routines by acclaimed dance troupes.

Imagine the excitement of seeing the stars of the dance world in one performance, and, let's not forget, all dressed in those glorious tutus.

### Shopping for a Tutu:

What is a fashion blog post without some shopping inspiration? Of course, I can't let this Tutu Tuesday go by without mentioning that I've been completely smitten with some gorgeous pink tutus recently! There are vintage inspired pieces, whimsical ones with a modern edge - oh, it's heavenly!

After my amazing trip to Harrods, I picked up this exquisite silk tulle tutu, adorned with beautiful beads, oh so fancy! The shade of pink? It’s a dream! I know you'll all love to know that there are several amazing shops dedicated to tutus on Oxford Street. That’s where the trendsetters hang out, of course, so don’t you just adore that! I simply have to visit to be up to date on all the latest trends.

Travel in Style:

Back in 1933, people loved to travel by train. I was recently at King’s Cross Station (everyone knows Platform 9 ¾) and I felt the glamour of the period so much! Elegant gowns, perfectly coiffed hair … I just had to have my photo taken there, next to a beautifully-dressed gentleman in a tuxedo. It’s a classic look, a total fashion dream. Of course, I was wearing my tutu, a total throwback to my time travel mission!

I had the best time chatting to a young lady about her journey to see a Christmas pantomime. Isn’t it magical when even in the midst of ordinary life, people embrace those wonderful, slightly whimsical fashion statements?

My Favourite Things:

So, darling tutus, that was our #TutuTuesday whirlwind journey through the elegance of 1933. I can't wait to continue our tutu time travel exploration every week. Don't forget to check back next Tuesday for another journey!

If you are feeling the glamour, why not share a photo of you in your favourite tutu on social media? I'm on @PinkTutu and Instagram too!
