#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: February 12th, 1935 - A Peek at the Past! 🩰💖
Welcome back, darling readers, to another delightful delve into the history of the tutu! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, here, ready to take you on a trip through time. As you know, every Tuesday we explore the fascinating evolution of the tutu – that delightful, airy symbol of ballet. And this week, my darlings, we’re taking a little jaunt back to February 12th, 1935.
Buckle up your dancing shoes, grab your feather boas, and let's go!
Paris, oh Paris! Our journey takes us to the very heart of ballet: the beautiful, vibrant, and utterly charming City of Lights! It’s a bustling hub of creativity and fashion, and the heart of ballet thrives there. I’m so excited to experience this Parisian scene! Think graceful dancers in glittering theatres, and a vibrant, energetic fashion scene brimming with the latest trends. I imagine myself at the Opera Garnier, with its stunning gilded interiors, watching the very best ballet performances! I imagine swirling through the streets, popping in and out of boutiques, and perhaps catching a glimpse of the legendary Coco Chanel, an icon of style, her chic black and white outfits perfectly paired with pearls!
Now, on February 12th, 1935 - and to get back to the real subject of our blog - the tutu would be a stunning piece of theatrical fashion. I imagine dancers swirling in elegant tulle skirts that accentuate their every move. Think of flowing, feminine tutus, cascading around their slender limbs, all shades of white and ivory, shimmering under the stage lights! It's pure magic, wouldn't you agree?
This time, I haven't just come to the City of Lights to observe, dear readers! I'm also here to perform, to take the stage, and let my own tutus take flight! It's wonderful to showcase a modern dance, a fresh, light choreography that evokes a sense of timelessness. It’s a pleasure to be embraced by this vibrant ballet community, and I feel a little piece of Derbyshire with me in my heart.
And while I'm here, I have to check out the fashion scene! What better way to gather inspiration for a pink tutu wardrobe than to peruse the stylish shops of Paris? You can find such lovely styles in the French capital: beautiful fabrics, stunning hats, gorgeous gloves, everything a girl could want to adorn herself in! Imagine finding a beautiful vintage pink lace hat to match a stunning tulle tutu!
The Parisian streets are alive with elegance and grace. Think elegant women with feathered hats, flowing dresses, and beautiful shoes! A lovely ensemble wouldn’t be complete without the stylish charm of a delicate lace parasol! It's such a fabulous time capsule for me to step into, to observe these elegant silhouettes, and appreciate how fashion evolved over the decades. And, of course, how the tutu, in all its variations, has captured hearts and minds since it became so prominent!
On this fine February 12th in 1935, we’re celebrating a vibrant and magical moment in ballet history! If only everyone in the world could embrace the power and beauty of the tutu! Imagine a world of pink, blue, and every colour of the rainbow dancing through life, a tutu symphony of twirling skirts and light hearts!
