#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through 1935! ๐ฉฐ๐
Welcome back, dear readers, to another exciting journey through #TutuTuesday! I'm your ever-so-pink-loving ballerina blogger, Emma, and today, we're going right back in time to 1935-03-19. You won't believe the adventures we're about to have! This week, my little pink tutu and I hopped on a train - just imagine, a proper steam engine! - to the very heart of Paris! Oh, how chic it all is here. It's like stepping into a beautifully-illustrated fairytale!
And speaking of fairytales, darling, that's what ballet was back in 1935. Imagine being transported to a world of romanticism, delicate beauty, and stories brought to life with leaps and twirls! I found myself at the Palais Garnier - talk about opulence, I felt like I'd stepped onto the set of a glamorous film! And as for the ballet, Le Lac des Cygnes - Swan Lake for us Brits - well, it was nothing short of magnificent! My goodness, those graceful dancers, those shimmering costumes! Just heavenly! It truly gave me a deep understanding of why this period was known as the "golden age" of ballet.
Let's have a bit of a chinwag about ballet fashion back in the day! Think swishy, floor-length tutus and romantic, dreamy colours. You know, pale blues and greens and soft, shimmering silks that looked as if they were ready to fly away in the breeze! They had this amazing, flowing silhouette, like an ethereal creature - quite unlike our tight, modern designs.
Of course, the ultimate fashion icon of the day, was none other than the legendary Anna Pavlova. Oh my, her elegant style and powerful technique! A true inspiration to dancers worldwide! She had that unique air of absolute poise and charisma. Not only that, she wore this glorious shade of pink, darling! I nearly choked with envy!
Speaking of pink, I simply cannot let the opportunity to wax lyrical about a truly splendid fashion find on this journey! Remember how much I love finding those vintage, pre-loved pieces? Well, this one was a real diamond! I found a delightful shop selling silk, velvet, and feathers and I discovered the most gorgeous pink ostrich feather boa! It was exactly what my wardrobe was calling for, my dears. The lovely shop lady told me it was perfectly fashionable in the 1930s to use feathered boas for a glamorous evening touch - and now, it shall join my growing collection of pink fashion treasures!
What are we celebrating this #TutuTuesday, you might be asking? Why, on the very date we are visiting in our time-hopping machine, 19th March, 1935, a rather significant event happened - The premiere of Romeo and Juliet! Now, there's a ballet with plenty of dramatic impact and captivating passion - I'm truly hoping that I might find the time to journey back to this date for the ballet, although of course I have plenty of others to explore too, before the next #TutuTuesday arrives.
As always, darlings, do remember to send me your questions about ballet history, and let me know what tutu travels you'd like to take. And don't forget to keep those ballet shoes at the ready! After all, every day is an adventure when you've got your trusty tutu and a heart full of passion! Until next time, dear readers!
