#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time, 21st May 1935! (Post 5395)
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, and as you know, I'm all about spreading the joy of the tutu. And I can't believe how excited I am about our journey through time today! Buckle up, my lovelies, because we're whisking ourselves back to 1935 for another fabulous edition of #TutuTuesday.
Ooh la la, can we even imagine life without the modern wonders of ballet like pointe shoes, the glorious costumes, and even tights? Well, back in 1935, the dance world was a bit different.
We might not have the fancy pointe shoes of today, but what a fantastically romantic time it was to be a dancer! Imagine: A beautiful ballet like "Giselle" in a stunningly soft romantic tutu, delicate ribbons dancing as you glide across the stage. The drama of the story, the powerful emotion... Pure magic, darling! And can we just swoon over those beautiful hand-sewn tutus? Each delicate layer, each intricate stitch - pure artistry!
While my love for a pink tutu will never diminish, the colour palette of the time was definitely less vibrant. Tutus were often created in delicate shades of blush pink, ivory, or even a pretty lilac, and you could really feel the classic elegance shining through. And oh my, don't even get me started on the fabrics! Think silk and chiffon, flowing and luxurious, perfect for capturing the delicate moves of ballet.
But the beauty of the past is all about embracing the simple elegance, wouldn't you say? It's the delicate swirls of the skirt, the light bounce of every twirl, the pure and heartfelt passion on the stage - a symphony of grace and beauty that truly captures the heart.
Now, my sweet lovelies, let's imagine this journey further. It's 21st May, 1935, and I'm sitting in the most delightful tearoom near the ballet school. It's all frills and chintz with an exquisite tea set. Outside the window, you can imagine me peering out through my oversized spectacles as I soak up the sights of this historic London - buses, grand houses, cobblestones and laughter... pure, unadulterated magic!
For some fabulous shopping, I’d be whisking myself down to Liberty's in London. It was the hottest fashion spot in 1935, brimming with beautiful and vibrant fabrics, gorgeous clothing for day or evening, and... tutus! Now, they might not be my bold pink, but imagine all the delicate shades of rose, the elegant chiffons, the silk so smooth you could cry. Heaven on Earth, darlings! We'd be buying ribbons, headbands, hairpins - anything to elevate my personal style, of course! I could not resist a touch of glitter, darling. I believe that a little bit of sparkle can make all the difference, especially when we're talking tutus.
Of course, no journey through time is complete without a magnificent show! In the early evenings, I'd head over to the London Coliseum. Imagine those red plush seats, the velvet curtains, the hush before the music starts. What an absolute joy it would be to watch dancers twirling across the stage! It wouldn't be complete without a glass of fizz and the sweet taste of a sugar-dusted éclair. Now that's the life, my lovelies!
But my time machine's calling! Sadly, I have to wave goodbye to 1935 and come back to my own era. This has been such a fascinating journey back in time - a reminder that tutus are always fabulous!
Keep spreading the love of ballet, darlings, and always remember, a pink tutu can brighten any day.
See you all next Tuesday!
Love, Emma xx
