Tutu Tuesday: A Blast from the Past! #5394

Hello darling tutus!

It's me, Emma, back with another dazzling dose of ballet tutu history. And guess what, darling? I'm not just twirling through the past on this glorious #TutuTuesday. I'm transported to Paris, the City of Lights, on the 14th of May, 1935. It's a crisp Parisian spring, and the city is buzzing with the energy of art and dance.

Just picture it: cobbled streets lined with beautiful boudoirs and chic shops, the air alive with the rhythmic clinking of teacups and the delicate trills of a passing violin. Now imagine me, swanning through the elegant crowds, in a very pink tutu, of course! I mean, why go anywhere in anything less fabulous than a tutu, am I right?

But we're not here to talk about my delightful attire (though we can always catch up later, lovelies). Today's topic is all about those darling tutu creations that are so closely linked to ballet's glamour. We're taking a peak back to 1935, and oh my, let me tell you, the tutus back then were a symphony of elegance!

You know, back then, ballet was all about graceful moves and perfectly executed steps. Imagine dainty little ballerinas pirouetting like delicate butterflies, their movements flowing like the most intricate melodies.

And those tutus! Picture billowing clouds of soft tulle, with a touch of silk and satin for a bit of glamour. Think pale pinks, romantic blush tones, or maybe even a daring touch of lavender! Those colours were just heavenly. Oh, and the bows? It wouldn't be a ballet without bows, my dears, would it?

This era saw the birth of the romantic tutu, darling. We're talking about tutus that gently flowed around the dancer's legs, showing off their exquisite lines without sacrificing any elegance. Gone were the days of tight, heavy tutus that constricted movement. They were about letting the ballerina soar through the air with complete grace and beauty. And oh, my dears, how we do love the ballet, don't we?

Now, for something a bit more current, it’s exciting news: today, we're having a bit of a dance to celebrate the premiere of La Fille Mal Gardée at the Opéra Garnier, right here in Paris! This was, for a long time, a pretty rare occasion for the Comédie Française. It's been decades since the public has seen it. If you're anything like me, and I know you are because you love your tutus and your ballet just as much as I do, you will have to see this wonderful performance.

Let's imagine for a moment, you're wearing your own pink tutu at the Opéra Garnier. Doesn't that make the performance a little bit more special? You get to revel in the beautiful artistry and feel like part of this spectacular tradition! This ballet will make you remember how much we love tutus, darling. I might have borrowed a little peek from the rehearsal room this morning... they just look stunning on stage, and those ballerinas will really blow your mind with their beautiful, feminine moves. I love ballet - if it wasn't for ballet I might not even be time-traveling today, you know.

Speaking of Paris, the very essence of fashion and luxury, just wait till I take you on a whirlwind tour of the elegant boutiques and tell you about all the dazzling fabrics they use for their amazing ballet tutus! The silks, the velvets, the lace, darling! Oh, it's enough to make a tutu-loving girl faint!

Of course, I always manage to make some new tutu friends. Paris is the heart of the ballet world. They have the most amazing tutus, my dears! Imagine a perfectly made pink tutu, a slightly different shade to your usual pink, but absolutely perfect in its beauty and refinement! Of course, my favourite, will always be a bright, vibrant, showstopping pink, and if it has some sparkle... oh, it’s perfect. I will always love shopping for tutus, darling!

So there you have it, another fabulous journey through time!

But now I'm off, gotta hop back onto that time train. This week, it's Moscow, darlings! They’re celebrating the Bolshoi Ballet this week and I am going to be in the middle of all that wonderful tutu action. Until next Tuesday, keep dancing your hearts out!

XOXO

Emma
