#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 7th January, 1936!

Hello lovelies! It's your favourite pink-loving ballerina blogger, Emma, and it's another glorious #TutuTuesday! I've popped back in time again, this time landing in the glorious year 1936. Can you believe it's been this long since the fabulous ballet tutu became the ultimate symbol of elegance and grace? Oh, the memories!

(This post marks my 5428th post on the www.pink-tutu.com blog. Can you believe it? That's almost 11 years of tutus, travelling, and bringing a bit of magic into the world!)

This week, I'm all about exploring the history of the tutu! I absolutely adore them - their sheer beauty, the way they float and twirl, and the way they make me feel like I could leap over the moon! You know me, I'm always after a fabulous bargain and an absolute fan of a classic design, so it only felt right to journey back to 1936 and uncover some amazing tutu moments in time.

Well, lovelies, 7th January 1936 was a rather big day for the ballet world. The one and only Anna Pavlova - the icon, the legend, the queen of ballet herself - took centre stage at London’s His Majesty's Theatre! It's rumoured she wore a glorious "Russian" tutu, and you know I love me a good Russian tutu! It was probably made of silk or gauze, flowing like a cloud around her body. And imagine the choreography - just picturing those mesmerising moves and the captivating magic she brought to the stage! I've been told the crowd went absolutely wild! They would have gone wild to see her in a tutu anyway. Pavlova was a legend and those tutus are magical!

Speaking of magical, darling, 1936 was a time for innovation in ballet! Can you imagine how thrilled I was to discover the birth of the "Classical Tutu"? Isn't that incredible? This little number was a sensation, giving dancers the chance to explore the true beauty of dance with complete freedom! It's not like the early rigid designs - this tutu was soft, feminine, and flowing, perfect for spinning and pirouettes! Can you just imagine how many incredible ballet routines must have been born from it?

Oh, darling, another little tidbit I found - did you know in the 1930s, there was a real craze for "Ballet Street" and "Theatre Performances"? Oh, the fun, and oh the style! Can you imagine being transported to a whole new world? It's no wonder that this whole style caught on! We're talking beautiful dance shows, dramatic music, dazzling costumes, and of course - beautiful, floaty, magnificent tutus! I'm so glad this beautiful time in dance is documented! It shows the world that elegance is timeless and will never fade away.

(As a ballerina blogger who's had a few too many adventures, my absolute favourite way to travel is by train, don't you think it's a great way to appreciate the scenery, grab a delightful book, and sip some tea while taking in the passing world? I just adore those romantic, plush carriages. Nothing beats the gentle clickety-clack and that feeling of being transported to a magical world, especially when dressed in my very best pink tutu.)

So, my loves, you can see just how deeply entrenched the tutu is in history - the story continues to grow! And with every new performance, every new dancer, the magic of the tutu is enhanced and revitalized!

What’s next, darling? This week, I'm absolutely besotted with a fabulous pale pink "tulle tutu". It has that delicate and ethereal feel, yet with just enough structure to showcase that dramatic swirl I love. What's wonderful about tulle is that you can dress it up or dress it down. If I'm heading out to a ballet performance (it's my favourite kind of night out), it's my "go to." But if I’m wandering around the shops, the pink tutu adds a delightful touch to the shopping spree! And if I’m feeling playful, I can accessorise it with my lovely ballerina bag or even some delicate jewelry! A pink tutu really makes any outfit a perfect symphony of chic.

Remember darling, always embrace the magic of the tutu, and embrace the world of colour with your heart! You might be wondering, as you read this, "Where do I even find such fabulous pink tutus?"

Don’t you worry darling! Pop on over to my lovely, little online shop on my www.pink-tutu.com blog, you can have a look at some glorious creations! I've been diligently working away at my shop (because you know how much I love shopping), adding new styles, vibrant colours, and the perfect touch of sparkle, just for you! Oh, the possibilities are endless, darlings!

I hope you’ve had fun on this magical journey back to the fabulous world of the ballet tutu, 1936 style. Don’t forget to keep up with your beloved, time-traveling, pink-tutu loving Emma, by joining me every #TutuTuesday. Until next time darling, you keep shining, twirling, and rocking your own gorgeous tutus.

Much love,
Emma 💖💕
