TutuTuesday #5563: A Whirl Through the Twenties!
Hello lovelies, and welcome back to another fabulous TutuTuesday! Today we’re taking a trip back in time to August 9th, 1938, and what a whirlwind of a day it was! I travelled by train, of course - the grandest mode of transport for a lady in her pinkest tutu! My destination? The glorious heart of London, England, where tutus are truly adored and danced about like it's no one's business.
Let me tell you, 1938 was an exciting year for ballet, with so many fantastic performances that it's impossible to choose just one! But for a TutuTuesday like today, it wouldn't be right to ignore the opening night of Le Lac des Cygnes at Covent Garden. Can you imagine? Swan Lake! In all its romantic glory, it had everyone in London buzzing! Imagine all the exquisite tutus swirling on stage – such an inspiration to us all, especially for someone who dreams of having a tutu in every colour imaginable.
The 1930s, especially in the years just after the war, were full of a vibrant spirit for ballet, full of excitement and experimentation. And tutus, well they were the star of the show! *Imagine: *graceful tutus in shimmering silks and satins, perfect for capturing the lightness of a dancer's leap.
It's hard not to get caught up in the thrill of all these dazzling performances and beautiful costumes. That's the magic of the past: those unforgettable moments in theatre, those stunning dance costumes, the pure beauty and artistry that captured hearts.
Now, I just couldn’t visit London without a little shopping, so I ventured to a charming little haberdashery on Bond Street – quite the delightful treat! You just wouldn’t believe the ribbons and lace! And fabrics, oh the fabrics! A real haven for any tutu enthusiast like myself. There’s nothing like the scent of fresh fabric and the promise of new creations - a delightful sense of whimsy!
But don’t think for a moment that fashion was the only thing on my mind! Oh, the tea! We mustn’t forget the elegant afternoon tea, complete with delicate finger sandwiches, pastries, and a proper pot of tea with cream and sugar. You see, when I’m travelling back in time, I always like to indulge in the local traditions - it gives me a real sense of being there. It's just soooo charming.
And so, as the day drew to a close, I stepped onto the train, my heart filled with the echoes of graceful dance moves, and the anticipation of creating my next masterpiece. You see, my dears, time travelling has this wonderful effect – it makes me see everything through the eyes of a newbie again, constantly reminded of the thrill of learning something new, and of all the incredible creativity to be found in this world. And of course, no trip to London is ever complete without imagining a perfectly pink tutu waltzing under the glow of the moon... It truly is a magical city for the ballet obsessed, don’t you think?
*Remember, lovelies, * to wear your pink tutu with pride and always look at the world through those shimmering, twirling eyes. And as always, I’m so excited for all of your tutu-themed comments below!
Until next time,
Emma
