#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through the 1930s! 🩰

Hello lovelies! It’s Emma here, your pink tutu-clad guide to all things dance and fashion! This week, we're travelling back to the glitzy glamour of 1938. Hold onto your feather boas, we’re going on a delightful journey to the world of ballet tutus! ✨

As always, my dear readers, this is post number 5572 on my ever-expanding Ballet Tutu History blog. Don’t forget, every Tuesday I’ll be sharing another snippet of tutu trivia! You can find my other adventures at www.pink-tutu.com – do pop in and say hello!

This week, my journey started in the heart of London – just imagine, the bustling crowds, the roar of buses, the alluring scent of freshly baked bread! I hopped onto a charming red double-decker, feeling as elegant as a swan gliding across a still lake (all thanks to my brand new, exquisitely ruffled pink tutu!). My destination? The Royal Opera House!

Now, you see, ballet in 1938 was something truly special! It was a time of vibrant choreography and beautiful, flowy costumes. Tutus were still evolving, becoming ever more graceful and flattering – think long, swirling layers of tulle, creating a truly ethereal silhouette. Imagine them fluttering about on stage like the petals of a delicate flower!

What was I going to see on this grand day, you ask? Why, it was the magnificent "Swan Lake"! 🦢 This tale of love and betrayal is always a favourite, with the beautiful, tragic dance of the swans taking my breath away every time! It’s a story that takes you on an emotional rollercoaster – from joyous, passionate leaps to gentle, poignant glides.

Speaking of the swans, wouldn't you agree that white is the colour for true elegance and grace? Imagine yourself waltzing around in a gorgeous white tutu, feeling like a heavenly being, the light catching the soft tulle and reflecting like moonbeams! 🌕

I just had to add a bit of colour to my own attire, of course! Pink and white, the perfect combination for a dreamy, fairytale feeling! And speaking of fairy tales… my dear readers, I do adore the delightful lightness of tutus, the feeling of airiness and freedom they offer. Like a little fairy fluttering around in the spring air! 🧚‍♀️

As I walked the grand, imposing halls of the Opera House, I was swept away by the sheer extravagance of it all. Imagine rows and rows of velvet-clad seats, glittering chandeliers casting an enchanting glow, and the hushed anticipation hanging in the air!

And you know what? It's not just about the dance! For me, a trip to the theatre is also an adventure in fashion. In 1938, the ladies of London embraced a flair for the dramatic – think exquisite, intricate hats, elaborate gloves and flowing gowns – an utterly captivating display of style! I, of course, matched my pink tutu with my favourite rose-coloured lipstick and a touch of shimmer on my eyelids! You have to make the most of a fabulous occasion, after all! 💄

Now, before I take my leave for today, I can't resist leaving you with a little bit of behind-the-scenes peek! 🤫 I bumped into a group of ballet dancers just outside the theatre! These were some of the most skilled, graceful artists in the world, and they were as excited for the show as any member of the audience.

That is one of the beautiful things about ballet. It's not just a spectacle – it's an experience! It's a whirlwind of emotions, passion, and art, and it has the power to sweep you off your feet!

So, what will you be doing on your own #TutuTuesday? I’d love to hear your ideas! Tell me what you're doing to embrace your inner ballerina. Perhaps a twirl around the kitchen, or even a trip to a ballet class! I always say, you don't need a grand theatre or even a fancy tutu to feel the magic of dance! ✨

Remember, ladies, keep those spirits high, those tutus fluttering and that smile bright! Don't forget, we’ll be back here next week for another delightful journey into the world of ballet tutus!

Until next time,

Emma xoxo 🩰
