#TutuTuesday: A Peek Back at Ballet History! (Post #5573)
Hello lovelies! 🩰 It's Emma here, back from another jaunt through time! I’ve travelled all the way back to 18th October 1938 and let me tell you, darling, the Parisian fashion scene is absolutely buzzing. Now, where do I even begin? Well, I’ve always said, every Tuesday is #TutuTuesday, so it wouldn't be right to not talk a bit about tutu history. You've got to appreciate those graceful, flowy creations, right? So, grab a cuppa, get comfy, and let's have a little time travel chat!
The Elegance of the Dance
So, I’ve been flitting about all over Paris this week, popping into the Palais Garnier, watching the most dazzling ballerinas, their movements as delicate as flower petals, swirling in those billowing tutus! There was an extra spring in my step watching those costumes move with the dancers, each one a story unfolding in the language of movement. It's a delight, darling! I truly do think the tutu is a masterpiece of fashion and dance. It's like a puff of air, caught in the moment and then sculpted, ready to explode with energy and elegance.
Where The Magic Begins
Back in the 1930s, tutus had a strong focus on romanticism. Just imagine the sheer ethereal beauty of those delicate tutus! Imagine it flowing effortlessly around the dancers like the softest whisper of tulle! Now, while I am a true romantic, we are talking pure tulle, lots of it, in layers and layers and layers... A big poof of beauty with just a touch of frills and feathers! Oh, I must add that today I popped into one of Paris's chicest stores and there I spotted the most beautiful silk stockings with exquisite embroidery and lace trim! Imagine it, darling! They look stunning with my pink tutu!
A Dance Through Time
In fact, 18th October, 1938 was the day Serge Lifar and the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo danced Giselle, oh my word! You can just imagine how amazing this must have been, a truly magnificent spectacle! Just hearing those beautiful Russian melodies transport me to a different time. The performance must have been an absolute dream! Just think of the grace and beauty of the ballerinas as they flowed and twirled, and of the dramatic tension of the choreography, taking the audience to an ethereal world of magic! Giselle, is just one of many remarkable stories brought to life through the art of dance, and those magical tutu creations.
Fashionable Adventures in 1938
Speaking of the French, those darling Parisian designers are at their very best, bringing us incredible elegance! Those long, slim dresses with their graceful draping, a little dash of whimsy in a colourful scarf, a pop of pink on the lips and we've got absolute chic! But remember ladies, never, never sacrifice comfort for fashion. You know me, I wouldn't be caught dead in anything uncomfortable!
A Dream in Pink
My heart beats a little faster when I see a ballerina grace the stage in a perfectly fluffy pink tutu. There’s nothing more dreamy, isn't there, darlings? A vision in swirling tulle. I always feel that pink adds a bit of extra magic! It is the perfect colour for any occasion. And in these times of war and tension, I feel like pink just brightens up the day! Just a bit of happy and love to light the way. And yes, you know I am working on my pink tutu dream - a world where everyone has their very own pink tutu for those moments when you want to embrace your inner dancer, unleash a bit of playful femininity.
Coming Back to Today
Until next Tuesday, darling, I'm off to catch the latest ballet at the London Coliseum! I have a feeling there's a gorgeous show with more than a few twirling tutus and I can't wait! Until next time, keep those toes pointed and don't forget, every day can be a little bit like #TutuTuesday if you let it be! 💖
Lots of love and tutu kisses!
Emma xx
