#TutuTuesday: A Glimpse into the World of 1938, Post 5574!
Hello darlings! Emma here, back with another dose of tutu-tastic history for your #TutuTuesday! As a fellow ballet aficionado, you know I can't resist a journey through time, especially when it involves twirling and tulle! This week, we're whisking ourselves back to October 25th, 1938. Imagine, just a few days after the opening of the "Ballets Russes" in New York, the world was buzzing with ballet fever. Just imagine being there! Oh, to have been a part of that atmosphere!
Oh, but don't get your little ballerina brains in a twist - I'm not here to give you a lecture on history! Let's make this fun, shall we? Let's slip into our pink tutus and take a stroll through this exciting period together. Weâll discover the tutu fashions and learn about what's happening on this magical date, from London to New York and everywhere in between!
Tutu Style: 1938!Letâs face it: a pink tutu never goes out of style. They are simply iconic! However, the fashion of the times is worth considering for inspiration. Think elegant and flowing, my dears. A graceful silk gown, a fluttery skirt, perhaps some delicately beaded accessories, and, of course, a beautiful pair of ballet slippers for that whimsical touch. Just remember, we want to channel the refined glamour of this period, something sleek and classic with a touch of whimsy, and perhaps a sprinkle of sequins for added flair.
I can practically picture myself strutting down Londonâs Bond Street in this very attire. It would definitely make an impression, perhaps even inspiring the trendiest boutiques to add their own versions of the âballerina chicâ into their windows.
Ballet PerformancesOh darling, where to even begin? In 1938, the world of ballet was ablaze with incredible performances, it was the thing to do! We are talking "Giselle" in Vienna, âLa Sylphide" in Paris and "Sleeping Beauty" in New York! It was absolutely magical.
You wouldnât have wanted to be missing out, because I'm sure every theatre was buzzing with the excited chattering of excited ballet fans.
Personally, if I was in London that October, I'd be dashing off to the Royal Opera House. There is a truly spectacular âSwan Lakeâ being performed, you see, the choreography by Nicholas Sergeyev. Just imagining the ethereal grace of the dancers, the haunting beauty of Tchaikovsky's music - it makes me want to don a tutu and float! You might be wondering about the tickets! Well, if I wasnât touring, I could afford a prime seat for a performance or two thanks to the profits from my Ballet Tutu History website, and oh! what an investment it has been!
Travel, Fashion and Shopping in 1938As much as I love staying in London and enjoying a gorgeous theatre performance, a journey around the world with this enchanting ballet fever in the air is too tempting. I can imagine myself settling onto the luxurious velvet seat of a carriage heading towards Paris, where, rumour has it, the very best designers are unveiling their collections in stunning displays. Iâm picturing sleek suits, perfectly tailored, beautiful hats perched on elegant heads, all finished with a delicate touch of glamour - the fashions of that period were simply divine! Just imagine all the divine fashion!
Donât get me started on the shops! There were countless boutiques bursting with gorgeous garments â exquisite fabrics, shimmering silk dresses, glamorous furs - everything my heart desired. Shopping was an event - just look at that beautiful art deco architecture and youâll understand. There was real magic in the air. And if you could afford it, you would simply have to travel by train, with all of its charming romantic atmosphere. Even today, a trip by train conjures a certain romance and a bit of excitement for me! And you, darling?
I feel as though it is just about time to bid you farewell and leave you in that beautiful ballet atmosphere. Remember to make time to look into 1938, the glamorous ballet scene. And I mustnât forget to remind you to pop over to pink-tutu.com this time next week for more #TutuTuesday! And darling, be sure to add that very special pink tutu into your wardrobe!
And until next TuesdayâŚkeep dancing!
