Tutu Tuesday: A 1939 Whirlwind! 🩰💖

Hello darling tutu-lovers!

Welcome back to another exciting installment of my Tutu Tuesday blog, post number 5600! This week, we're taking a grand leap back in time to a gloriously glamorous era - April 25th, 1939. Put on your finest frock, polish your ballet shoes, and join me as we twirl through the swirling world of tutus and all things fabulous!

Today, I found myself right here in London, a city buzzing with anticipation for the opening of a very special theatre – The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden! The year is 1939, and while the air might be thick with a whisper of wartime uncertainty, the world of ballet is shining brightly.

The Dawn of the Tutu Era:

Oh darling, this period is a dream for any tutu-lover like myself! Ballet in the 1930s is practically oozing with romance and beauty. Think elegant tutus in softest silk, delicate layers of tulle that float like a dream. Gone are the heavy, fussy, frilly styles of the past – it's all about sleek, sophisticated elegance. The "classical" tutu, as we know it, is in its prime. Think the legendary Margot Fonteyn in her glorious pointe shoes, her movements as graceful as the flowing tulle. Ah, I'm absolutely swooning!

And speaking of Fonteyn, it's a time of change for the world of dance. This very day, she graces the stage, dazzling the audience with her effortless artistry. There's an unmistakable thrill in the air! These are the years that birthed some of the most iconic names in ballet history – Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes are still turning heads, Nijinsky is still captivating hearts, and there's a whole new wave of talent ready to set the dance world ablaze.

The Pink Paradise of 1939:

This decade is truly the age of pink! A blush of pink tulle, a delicate shade of rosy silk, oh the elegance! Every outfit just whispers "chic!" It's a color that brings to mind luxurious fabrics, vintage beauty, and timeless elegance. I could practically hear the gentle swish of these glorious tutus!

For myself, well, my pink tulle tutu is shimmering even more vibrantly than usual. You can bet your bottom dollar I'm channeling all the glorious energy of these 1930s fashion icons! And don’t even get me started on the fabulous shoes! Satin pumps, delicate heels, and the most stunning designs I've ever seen – each pair a masterpiece in its own right.

A Fashionable Time Travel Tip:

To achieve that quintessential 1930s glamour, look for those vintage touches – an antique hat with a delicate veil, a chic little purse that's just the right size for your essentials, and a scarf to tie with a jaunty knot – oh, how charming! The details are everything! And don’t forget a bright red lip for that added pop of colour.

Time Travelling Tales:

Speaking of traveling, it wouldn't be a Tutu Tuesday without a story from my time travels. My journey here to London was truly enchanting. I hopped aboard a steam train, the carriage bathed in warm, golden light. The scenery was so charming – rolling hills, quaint countryside villages. I can almost feel the gentle swaying of the train, the clickety-clack of the wheels on the track, the soft scent of steam filling the air. Ah, a time traveler’s dream come true!

The Future is Pink (And Tutus!)

Well darlings, it's time to go! But remember, fashion never really dies, just morphs into something beautiful. There's no stopping the power of a perfect tutu. Just think how much the 1930s have influenced fashion today! It’s all a lovely cycle of timeless beauty and chic.

So grab your pink tutu, let your imagination dance, and let's keep the spirit of pink tutu glamour alive.

See you next week for another glorious journey through Tutu History!
