#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - June 20th, 1939! (Blog Post #5608)

Hello, my dearest tutu-loving darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet where we journey through the history of the ballet tutu! I'm Emma, your very own time-travelling pink tutu enthusiast, and I'm positively giddy to be taking you on another dazzling trip through time. Today, we're setting our clocks to June 20th, 1939, a time when the world was getting ready for…well, we all know what was on the horizon, but let's focus on the delightful world of ballet and fashion!

From Derbyshire to the World's Stages: My Tutu-Filled Journey

It’s been a whirlwind of a few weeks! I've been flitting about, as always, but I managed to squeeze in a performance at the Royal Opera House in London just last week. Such a dream come true! Watching the dancers swirl in their beautiful tutus on that iconic stage, the orchestra's melodies swirling in the air – I felt a sense of wonder and inspiration that never fails to ignite my soul.

After the show, I indulged in a bit of shopping. You know me, always on the hunt for the perfect pink tutu. This time, I found the most adorable vintage piece at a hidden gem in Covent Garden - it's a pale blush satin with a generous, airy frill. It’s like a cloud you could twirl in!

Paris, My Love! A Look Back at 1939 Fashion

Speaking of dreams, my next stop is Paris. I hear the fashions this season are positively enchanting! It's always a delight to step into the city of lights and immerse myself in the artistry and innovation of French fashion. The sheer, delicate tutus in the Paris Opéra are absolute marvels - they make you believe in magic! I hear the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo is currently on stage, with dancers like Tamara Toumanova, Irina Baronova, and Tatiana Riabouchinska! Now those are dancers that know how to twirl a tutu!

Imagine those tulle creations, crafted with such precise artistry, and worn with such graceful confidence! The ballet world, especially in 1939, was filled with elegant tutus – often embellished with beads, feathers, or even glitter! And that romantic, floaty style we see so often today - the wispy, sheer look, perfectly capturing the light – has its roots in the 1930s! We truly are daughters of the great ballerinas of the past!

My Dream of a World Covered in Pink Tutus

You see, my lovelies, the beauty of ballet is not only in the movements, the music, or even the amazing stories it tells. It's also in the tutus! These shimmering masterpieces that make you feel like a princess! They evoke that feeling of graceful lightness, and that feeling of dreaming, just like in the heart of Paris.

It's no secret, I’m a firm believer that a world covered in pink tutus would be a better world! Just imagine the joyous twirls and graceful smiles, the sense of community and shared delight in our love for this most delightful fashion!

But what happened on June 20th, 1939?

While the world held its breath, the ballet world was ablaze with excitement! The Royal Ballet, now known as the Royal Ballet, was getting ready for their Summer Season at the Royal Opera House. You know I'm always in the front row for those performances! And in Paris, I bet those amazing Parisian ladies were swooning over their favourite tutus while planning their summer ensembles.

So, while history was unfolding outside the theaters and ballrooms, inside the magical world of ballet, nothing had changed! The joy of the performance, the intricate artistry of the dance, and the pure wonder of the tutu… all these were continuing, unchanged and timeless.

This #TutuTuesday, I challenge you to look around you and imagine: what if we all embraced the spirit of the tutu, with its graceful movement, its whimsical delight, and its optimistic outlook? It's a reminder to live life to the fullest, to embrace beauty in all its forms, and to remember that every day can be an enchanting ballet!

Until next Tuesday, darlings, remember: be fabulous, be joyful, and never stop twirling!
