#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 29th August 1939 - A Twirl Through Time! 🩰
Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, and welcome back to another edition of #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History! This week, we're twirling back to 29th August 1939 - a date etched in history, and one which forever altered the world's trajectory.
But before we delve into the momentous events of the day, let's chat about the delightful realm of fashion, shall we? Oh, darling, the clothes of the late 1930s are simply divine! Picture wide-legged trousers, breezy summer dresses with cinched waists, and hats - oh, so many hats! And of course, there were the dazzling dresses and enchanting tutus of the ballet world!
I landed in Paris, the heart of fashion, and let me tell you, the tutus here are just chef's kiss. Imagine a blend of elegant lines, sumptuous fabrics, and those stunning, cascading layers – absolutely divine! I'm even thinking of recreating some of the designs for a new tutu line – I'm absolutely dying to introduce the era's exquisite flair to the world!
Now, back to history. 29th August 1939 was the day that Nazi Germany signed the Nazi-Soviet Pact with the Soviet Union. Sadly, this agreement solidified the political and military alliance between these two powerful nations and set the stage for the horrific Second World War.
Even as darkness loomed, the spirit of ballet continued to shine. It was during this tumultuous period that the ballet world witnessed some truly stunning performances. Just imagine those exquisite moves, the captivating stories told through the dance, and the grace and beauty that shimmered on stage. What a way to escape the grim realities of the world!
I went to see "Giselle" at the Paris Opera that week. The story of a heartbroken peasant girl and a mysterious man still brings tears to my eyes, but it also reminds me of the enduring power of human spirit in the face of hardship. It’s amazing how this timeless art form has the power to transport us, allowing us to reflect on the world and its complexities through movement, music, and emotions.
Speaking of emotions, my trip wouldn’t be complete without a touch of pink, my favourite colour. I even went to Galeries Lafayette, that magical department store in Paris! Darling, it was simply glorious! I treated myself to a delicious lunch at their rooftop cafe and bought a gorgeous silk scarf in a divine shade of blush. After all, a little splash of pink amidst the historical turmoil made me feel like I could dance my way through anything!
Even with the uncertainty looming over Europe, it's beautiful to see that beauty and art continued to flourish.
You know what, darling? Despite the gravity of the times, it was during this period that the "pink tutu revolution" began! Just imagine, if people had worn pink tutus everywhere, perhaps we could have used that beautiful spirit of ballet to spread peace and understanding. What do you think? Tell me all your thoughts!
Well, my darlings, time waits for no ballerina. Until next #TutuTuesday, remember to always dance through life with joy, a little bit of pink, and a touch of sparkle!
Until next week!
XOXO
Emma
