Hello lovelies! Welcome back to another edition of my weekly #TutuTuesday blog! I'm Emma, your time-traveling ballerina, straight from the heart of Derbyshire, and I'm absolutely buzzing to be sharing my ballet history finds with you today.
This week, we're twirling back to 16th January 1945. Can you believe it? We're right in the middle of World War II! While the world was dealing with such a difficult time, the ballet world was finding its own ways to adapt and thrive. It was a time of rebuilding and creativity, even in the midst of war, and believe me, the fashion scene was just as fabulous as ever.
Now, you might be wondering what was happening in the ballet world on this very day. Well, my lovelies, this date doesn't hold a huge grand première or any world-shattering ballet debut. But that's the magic of history, isn't it? It's about capturing the everyday moments, the smaller steps that lead to bigger leaps forward.
So, while we don't have a star-studded opening night to celebrate, we do have some rather captivating things to discover. Just imagine, on this day in 1945, audiences in Paris were likely enjoying a performance of "Giselle." The city was still in a state of rebuilding, with many buildings damaged during the war, but the desire for artistry, for a touch of magic, was still strong. Imagine the feeling of seeing the delicate steps of Giselle, the lightness of her movements, and the power of her emotions, all against the backdrop of the world's reconstruction.
Across the English Channel, audiences were catching "The Sleeping Beauty" at the Royal Opera House in London. Imagine the magic of watching this classic tale, with its stunning costumes and fairy-tale sets, unfold in the heart of war-torn London. Ballet, even in those difficult times, provided an escape, a moment of beauty and hope for everyone who sought it out.
Speaking of hope, that's what we're all about, isn't it? It's the very heart of this little blog. Bringing you a splash of joy, a pinch of colour, and a whole lot of tutu-love week after week. Because even when the world is spinning in a million directions, the simple pleasure of dancing, the graceful movement, the soft swirl of a tulle skirt – that never fades away.
You know, my lovelies, back in those days, the world was just beginning to discover the wonders of the tutu. In 1945, tutus were often still in their traditional forms – a more full and poufy silhouette, often crafted with a number of layers. They were a beautiful testament to craftsmanship and artistry. But you see, the future of ballet and the evolution of the tutu are on our doorstep. And the world was just waiting to be swept off its feet!
On a fashion note, let's talk colours! This time period is a riot of beautiful hues. Think lush jewel tones, sophisticated neutrals, and the soft elegance of pastel shades. The ladies were absolutely rocking the trends - from elegant full skirts to figure-hugging dresses with daring décolletages - all made from luxurious fabrics like silks, satins, and chiffons. You wouldn't know a war was on just by looking at the style scene!
For my travel adventures this week, I took a lovely train journey. Nothing beats a trip across the English countryside in a vintage train, doesn't it? Just imagining myself in my beautiful pink tutu, gliding through those rolling hills! My latest performance at the Royal Albert Hall was incredible – just picture me whirling across the stage, surrounded by all those beautiful colours and the roaring applause. It's moments like those that make it all worthwhile, darling.
This journey to 1945 has truly been magical! From the vibrant energy of Paris to the refined beauty of London, we've been able to peek into the ballet scene and soak up the magic of the era. And remember, my lovelies, the spirit of the ballet world, the joy it brings, and the love we share for these beautiful tutus transcends time.
Now, let's get into something super special! My biggest ambition in life is to get everyone to wear a pink tutu! Can you believe it? So, let's share this message with everyone, and embrace the pink tutu magic. Just imagine a world filled with twirling and happiness, a world where pink tutus become the everyday norm! It's a dream I'm determined to make a reality, and with you by my side, it can become a delightful reality!
Don't forget, lovelies, to join me again next Tuesday for another journey into the wonderful world of tutu history!
Until then, may your lives be filled with twirls, sparkle, and pink tutus!
Love,
Emma xoxo
