#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History – 25th September 1945 - Post 5935! 🩰💕
Hello lovelies! Welcome back to pink-tutu.com! This week on #TutuTuesday, I'm taking us back in time to 25th September 1945! Isn't history just fascinating? We’ve all got our favourite periods and styles, and today's vintage vibe has me all aflutter! This is the very special date that marks the end of the war in Europe. Everyone’s celebrating the return of peace and freedom. What a cause for celebration!
As a ballerina and passionate history buff, my head is spinning with the possibilities. The world is changing rapidly, and that energy is always thrilling! The air is full of hope for a brighter future, and let me tell you, the fashion scene reflects that!
The big question is - what did tutus look like back then? How was ballet progressing? I bet you’re itching to find out! Buckle up, because I’m going to give you the scoop, straight from the ballet stage to your screens!
Tutus Taking a TurnBefore we go further, let’s take a trip on the ol’ time machine and picture this - London! The iconic ballet scene is bustling with activity after the war years, and I am right here in the thick of it! The excitement of the postwar world is felt in every corner, with ballet taking centre stage in a wave of cultural revival.
Now, picture this – the year is 1945, and we're still in the romanticism of the classical tutu. This is a time for airy elegance. I imagine light, breezy fabrics – lots of tulle and layers – with emphasis on that feminine silhouette! It was all about graceful movements, creating the perfect airy illusion for the ballerinas on stage. And imagine – the tulle back then was crafted by hand, what a laborious and special process!
This was the time when Margot Fonteyn, the legendary ballerina, was just starting her career! Oh, I dream of twirling on stage alongside her! I’ve been studying all of her famous dance performances – and I’m mesmerized by the ethereal, lyrical beauty of her movements! And just like Margot Fonteyn's timeless grace, the classic tutu itself represents a period of refinement, where elegance reigns supreme! Imagine, seeing these ballerinas on stage, in their tulle perfection, bathed in the golden glow of the theatre lights, the air thrumming with the applause. Can you see it, too? It truly is a magical experience.
Backstage BuzzSpeaking of magic – I've been busy hopping between London’s prestigious theatres! The Royal Opera House – oh the wonder of that venue! But also, Covent Garden – the atmosphere is just electrifying. My journey back in time always feels extra special when I can take in the real historical energy, from these venues.
There's so much creativity going on. Every corner whispers of stories – tales of renowned choreographers, dazzling premieres, and ballerinas rising to stardom! I can't resist slipping into a vintage dress and blending right in. It's a little like being in a historical film! The costume departments, full of sequins, velvet, and yes, tulle – what a feast for the senses.
Tutus, Shopping, & Tea! ☕️Speaking of exquisite senses – have you heard about London’s fashion scene? There’s something for every taste and occasion – and you know, a girl after my own heart – it’s truly a paradise. It’s the heart of a flourishing, exciting cultural scene, full of vibrant energy, colour, and style!
Of course, I just had to spend a day hopping between the iconic London boutiques. It’s hard not to give in to the alluring colours and fabulous fashions, with the elegance of the 1940s swirling around me. Imagine, hats with veil and gloves – an ensemble so perfectly timeless. I think this style might make a comeback! We have so much fashion history to learn from, wouldn't you agree?
There is so much going on here in this fantastic time. Even with the lingering echoes of the war, the city pulses with life. I just know that the future for fashion and ballet holds a world of exciting possibilities. There's no telling where these two forces will go hand-in-hand. Maybe I can even have my pink tutu dancing amongst the stars!
Well, that's all for this week's #TutuTuesday blog! Have I sparked your passion for vintage dance fashion, or have I got you yearning for the enchanting history of London? You know you’re already dreaming about slipping into a vintage tulle dream!
