#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post 6026

Hello my darlings! It’s Emma, your Tutu-obsessed Time Traveller, and it’s #TutuTuesday, which means it's time to waltz back through time, our pink tutus swirling in the wind, to explore the fabulous world of ballet and tutus!

Today, I'm finding myself in a delightful June, 1947. Think Parisian cafe culture, vintage fashion with a dash of wartime chic, and most importantly, an exciting time for ballet!

I arrived in the heart of Paris by train this morning - it was a glorious journey. You simply cannot beat a Parisian train ride. The gentle rattle of the tracks, the view of the countryside as we trundled past vineyards and quaint villages, it’s enough to make you feel like you’ve stepped out of a charming old movie. And of course, the opportunity to admire my fellow passengers. I noticed a particularly stylish gentleman sporting a beret - just perfect for his debonair Parisian air!

Of course, my first stop had to be at one of the city’s legendary department stores. They simply overflow with beautiful fabrics, from lace to silk to velvet. I couldn't help but pick up a piece of pale pink ribbon for a new little accessory to adorn my tutu. This Parisian ribbon has just the perfect shade, a hint of blush and just enough sparkle for the Parisian nights.

Speaking of Parisian nights, tonight is the night! I’m absolutely buzzing because tonight, I'm heading to the theatre for a grand ballet performance. The ballet world is really buzzing around here at the moment, particularly in this fabulous city, which seems to practically vibrate with creativity! They have these wonderful 'Ballet du XXe Siècle' - Ballet of the Twentieth Century performances!

Can you imagine being part of such a pioneering ballet company, embracing new ideas and choreographies? Just like a dazzling new tutu design! And there is so much inspiration around, it’s so exciting! Oh my, just thinking about it makes me twirl!

I know what you’re thinking, it’s probably just a normal night, like any other right? Nope, darling! Tonight is special, because we’re celebrating something very significant! We're celebrating the birthday of the legendary Roland Petit.

The Ballet du XXe Siècle, in which Roland Petit himself is dancing this evening is an absolute must see. This company, based in Paris since 1947, has some of the most brilliant dancers of this decade in its ranks. The energy and passion for their craft is simply contagious, and their choreography is innovative and breath-taking! It really pushes the boundaries, just as I like to do with my pink tutu fashion! They have this incredible talent for translating stories into movement and making everything seem so fluid and graceful.

Roland Petit is the man who's responsible for some of the most iconic ballet choreographies and his creative energy is the ultimate reason the Ballet du XXe Siècle is on fire right now! I can't wait to see him dance! It's such an honor to be here on the eve of his special day. And in case you are thinking he just dances? Think again! He is a director, a choreographer, a dancer, and a man who inspires artists everywhere! This is one of the main reasons why this new era in Parisian ballet is so amazing - this innovative style of choreography inspired by modern dance that truly reflects the modern age. The beauty, the creativity, the powerful athleticism of dance! Oh my, my excitement levels are at an all-time high. It's enough to make a girly girl like me twirl! Oh, and by the way darling, did I tell you? I just met Jean-Paul Sartre. Well actually, we had a very nice chat.

We talked about his book 'Existentialism and Humanism', a book I'm sure would be even more interesting for you to read! I don’t think Jean-Paul liked his pink tutu. But I tried.

Oh, before I leave you, I simply must share some more exciting news with you! The gorgeous ballet company the Paris Opéra Ballet has launched a special ballet school for aspiring dancers. How fabulous is that? They just can't get enough ballet. You see my lovely ladies, it is obvious - ballet is everywhere, even in the world of fashion! You wouldn’t believe the impact the ballet has on high fashion. You should see these beautiful dance dresses! The soft textures, the elegance of the designs, the sheer grace! I mean, what is better inspiration for a dress than the movements of a ballet dancer! And you just know, all those pretty outfits that adorn the lovely ballet dancers? A whole lot of them come from the lovely houses of Parisian fashion designers! So if you love your ballet and want to be surrounded by the grace of fashion, Paris is just the place to be. It really is a beautiful time to be alive. It's simply bursting with energy, talent, and grace.

I think the ballet here has already inspired me to do something quite exciting and I can't wait to show you my new idea for my ballet tutu collection, inspired by the "Ballet du XXe Siècle”! But don’t worry, it’s still keeping that classic feminine, delicate, but just a little touch of edginess, like that new “Modern” movement they are bringing into the ballet world. I just have to find a pretty fabric! I'm off to the market later. It is all in the name of ballet. But more importantly, it’s all in the name of the most fabulous thing of all? * Pink Tut*us!!

And a little secret for all you Tutu lovers: Keep a watch for my next #TutuTuesday. I may have a special announcement, but you will have to stay tuned to hear what that might be! And I don't want to miss you posting about your favourite tutu stories, and don’t forget to let me know where you are traveling with your tutus. See you next Tuesday!
