#TutuTuesday: A Blast from the Past - 1947-07-01 🩰

Hello darlings! Welcome back to my #TutuTuesday blog, this week taking us right back to the heart of ballet history, the 1st of July, 1947! As ever, I'm Emma, your resident pink tutu-wearing time-traveling ballerina, ready to whisk you away on another fabulous trip through the history of our beloved tutus. Today's journey will be particularly exciting - buckle up because we're heading to Paris!

It's Post 6027 on www.pink-tutu.com and if you’re wondering, I financed this little jaunt to Paris with a few well-placed pirouettes at a stunning production of Swan Lake. What better way to earn a trip across the channel than by dancing under the spotlight?!

The first thing I did once I got to Paris, of course, was head for a little shopping spree. The streets are simply bursting with such fantastic style, I nearly couldn't keep up with all the dazzling fashion! Just think, in 1947, Paris is the heart of fashion.

The city buzzes with exciting fashion, from the bold New Look introduced by Dior to the flowing and beautiful gowns. Paris, oh Paris! I am completely enamored! But back to the main topic – the tutus!

Back then, the ballet world was all abuzz about the Ballets Russes. They revolutionized the ballet world with their unique aesthetic. In the years leading up to the date I've chosen to explore, the world was witness to the beautiful artistry of the Ballets Russes and the revolutionary tutus designed for those dazzling dancers.

While tutus are popular at the time, they aren't everywhere. Ballet has evolved over the decades, and I must admit I've been to ballet performances where the dancers wear little tutus or even costumes with a more modern flair. You have to appreciate all forms of artistic expression. Some even have skirts instead of a tutu. However, I will always have a special fondness for the classic, full tutu, a true work of art. They look breathtaking and float beautifully. What a truly elegant silhouette!

Back to 1947, where I've just arrived at the Palais Garnier. The opulence of this majestic building simply takes my breath away. This legendary theatre is overflowing with history and glamour, the home to the Paris Opera. Now that’s a name with some serious history.

Just picture this - beautiful ballerinas gracefully leaping on stage, twirling in beautiful tutus. I love those large, dramatic tutus with layers of soft, white tulle, swirling with every movement. You know, those really big, fluffy tutus! Just heavenly. It really makes you feel the magic of ballet.

Here, we are seeing a new kind of tutu that moves differently. We can appreciate the sheer amount of craftmanship that went into the creations. The fabric, the stitching, the perfect layering of tulle for that magnificent, cloud-like effect. These ballerinas wear these works of art so effortlessly, a joy to witness. It's like the perfect marriage of dance and fashion, creating pure visual enchantment.

I even managed to catch a few glimpses of a performance at the Palais Garnier. You just can't help but get caught up in the passion and beauty! What a true gem to be a part of this journey. The tutus really come to life under the spotlights, creating an almost surreal, dreamlike scene. I imagine everyone in the audience gasping, enthralled by the magic of dance.

Speaking of a journey through time - and tutus, it would be unfair to ignore another vital ballet hub back then: Russia. Just a few years prior, we had the Russian Ballet, captivating audiences across Europe. While Paris may be dazzling and stylish, Russia is a place for bold statements and breathtaking talent. I can't wait to see what styles they created for the world of ballet!

But before I move on to my next tutu-tastic destination, let me tell you, a pink tutu never looked better on the streets of Paris! Just as I am back in Derbyshire, I hope this #TutuTuesday blog has inspired you to embrace your inner ballerina. Whether it’s getting out there to a dance class, buying a beautiful tutu for a special occasion, or simply adding a sprinkle of pink magic to your life. It’s amazing the confidence and magic that tutus can bring into the world.

Remember, you can always find my other posts on www.pink-tutu.com I can't wait to hear what you think of this TutuTuesday! Stay tuned for another journey through time! 💖
