Welcome back, darlings! It's your favourite Tuesday time traveller Emma here, back with another dive into the dazzling history of the tutu!

Today, we're setting our time machine dials to 3rd February 1948. The world was a bit different back then - my grandmother was a little girl, and rationing was still in full swing. However, even with wartime restrictions, the world of ballet was still full of elegance and grace, and you can be sure tutus were making a splash on the stage.

Tutus, Trains and Treats!

Oh, the excitement of travelling! This week, I found myself whisked away on a luxurious train journey. Fancy carriages and a most delightful afternoon tea with cucumber sandwiches and little cakes (my favourite!). Such a lovely way to reach my destination.

The air is full of anticipation! Today, I’m attending a performance by the famous Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, known for its stunning sets, costumes, and, of course, beautiful tutus!

What’s Hot in Tutu Land!

Let's talk tutus! 1948 saw a move towards more sophisticated designs. Gone were the days of the billowing romantic tutus of the 19th century. Instead, the tutu was becoming slimmer, more streamlined, and focusing on highlighting the dancer's movements. It was a time when the "classical tutu," with its layers of netting and an almost bell-like shape, was really starting to flourish.

These new tutus are just dreamy! They flow effortlessly as the dancers move, like pink clouds swirling across the stage!

Inspiration: From Ballet to High Street

Did you know that, even in 1948, tutus were influencing everyday fashion? I've seen such darling frocks, complete with tulle skirts that capture the grace and whimsy of a ballerina's tutu!

It's exciting to see how the world of ballet continues to inspire, making the everyday feel a little bit more magical!

Time Travelling Fashion!

Now, you wouldn't believe my new purchase. I just found the most adorable vintage hat trimmed with tulle and satin ribbons. It's the perfect finishing touch for any afternoon at the theatre. The best part? It matches my new pair of ballet flats – just the cutest shade of powder pink, if I do say so myself.

I can’t resist, darling! I have to share my secret: it’s pink, it’s tulle, and it's perfect for a chic, twirling time in the streets! The only thing missing is… oh! I'll tell you about that in next week's post!

But Remember, Stay Chic!

That's all for today's post! Don't forget to tune in next Tuesday for more tutus and history, and of course, some more of my time-travelling adventures!

In the meantime, may all your days be as graceful and lovely as a pink tutu!

Yours truly,

Emma

P.S. I have to add: how adorable are those cute little ballet pumps with ribbons? The perfect way to bring some ballet flair to everyday outfits. So many shops are selling adorable shoes these days - just be sure they're the most perfect shade of pink!
