#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 27th January, 1948!
Greetings from Paris, darlings! It's your favourite pink-loving ballerina, Emma, here, and it's #TutuTuesday! Welcome to my blog, www.pink-tutu.com - your one-stop shop for all things tutu, fashion, and of course, ballet!
Today we're waltzing back to 27th January, 1948, in this fabulous city of Paris. The air is buzzing with excitement and a certain je ne sais quoi, because โ you guessed it โ we're right in the middle of another grand ballet season! The Palais Garnier is filled with the whispers of tulle and the clinking of champagne glasses.
Now, you may not realise it, but today marks a truly special occasion. Just think: the year the tutu โ gasp! โ is in its early days! I know, darling, we're on a journey back in time, and while the tutu is in full glory today, this particular style was just starting to become the beloved garment we know and adore.
And thatโs partly thanks to the visionary designer, Christian Dior, whose "New Look" fashion collection debuted earlier this year, changing the silhouette of womenโs fashion forever. Dior brought back the feminine, emphasizing curves with the classic A-line dress. The ballet world, you see, followed closely. Suddenly, longer, fuller skirts were favoured on stage, replacing the shorter skirts of the early 20th century!
That means longer tutus too โ but that doesn't necessarily mean shorter legs, darlings! It's all about elegance and grace, darling!
Oh, and speaking of elegant, imagine my delight when I caught a glimpse of a stunning ballerina, her silken tutu cascading about her as she pirouetted with such grace! It was an absolutely breathtaking spectacle! This is what the ballet is about โ itโs about passion, elegance, and of course, the magical sway of the tutu!
Now, itโs 27th January 1948, so you know there are more fabulous things happening today than just the ballet! It's a beautiful Tuesday in Paris โ oh lร lร ! The streets are abuzz with the rumble of Citroen 2CVs and the Parisian scent of freshly baked croissants. The air is crisp with the promise of adventure and a stylishly warm Parisian afternoon. I did say it was a warm day, right? Imagine it with a stylish, rosy, cheek-kissing colour! Thatโs how my pink tutu feels when I whirl around on the dancefloor, darlings!
And speaking of my trusty pink tutu, it wouldn't be a #TutuTuesday without a little style tip from me! It's all about the pink this time, darlings! The post-war era embraced bright, bold colours โ and I think the colour pink absolutely reflects the excitement and the energy of this fantastic time! So get your blush on, my loves! Embrace the pink, find yourself a fabulous outfit with just a hint of pink, and sashay out with confidence! Remember โ we are in a period of recovery, a period of sparkle and new beginnings, of hope. Just like that gorgeous pink hue โ full of life!
And did I mention I am simply dying to find some Parisian chic clothes? Imagine it โ my wardrobe overflowing with beautiful clothes from Dior, Balenciaga, Lanvin โ what a dream! They truly knew how to craft a dress that moved like a ballerina's pirouette โ smooth, flowing, and just effortlessly glamorous.
But now, I must dash! A ballet show awaits, and I wouldn't miss it for the world! Donโt forget to follow my Instagram @emmaspinktutu for my latest fashion picks, #TutuTuesday posts and the behind the scenes glimpse into the life of your favourite pink tutu-clad ballerina.
Stay sparkly, darlings! And remember, if you ever find yourself lost in the whirlwind of fashion, just remember: there's always room for a little pink in your life. ๐
With love and pirouettes, Emma
