#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 6431!

Hiya darlings! Welcome back to your weekly dose of all things tutus! It's your favourite time-travelling tutu enthusiast, Emma, here! Today we're jetting back to 29th March 1955 - put on your favourite pink tutu and let's travel together!

Time travel by train? Why not!

Just imagine - hopping on a steam train from Derbyshire to London, my heart filled with excitement and anticipation! The journey itself is an adventure, and this trip, of course, has one very exciting purpose - ballet! But before we talk about the beautiful ballet world, let's discuss what fashion has in store for us.

The fabulous fifties - so full of charm!

What did everyone wear back in 1955? Well, think full skirts, cinched waists, and beautiful floral patterns! Women's fashion was all about femininity and elegance. Oh, and hats! We mustn't forget those fabulous hats! Picture wide-brimmed felt hats with a delicate veil, perhaps even a matching handbag - sheer perfection! This era has definitely inspired many modern-day designs!

Onwards to ballet!

So, darling readers, imagine this: the theatre is packed, and anticipation hums through the air as the lights dim and the curtain rises on another enchanting story, told through the universal language of dance. We're talking about the classic, Swan Lake, you know! The music swells, and a delicate tutu-clad ballerina takes the stage, captivating everyone with her grace and talent. Oh, the joy of ballet!

What’s on in 1955 that’s making headlines? In England, the Royal Opera House was rocking! This year, the legendary Margot Fonteyn was stealing the stage with her breathtaking performances, setting the standard for ballets all over the world.

Pink Power! A time for tradition

While today, we love a colourful tutu, back in the fifties, ballet tutus weren't as vibrant. Ballet was a traditional art form, and so were its costumes. Think pale pink or soft, dreamy colours for those graceful tutus. Of course, you always need a bit of bling, right? Think crystal embellishments and sparkling sequins that glimmered under the stage lights. Oh, what a dazzling vision of elegance!
