Tutu Tuesday: A Pink & Frilly Look Back at 1958! (Post #6611)
Helloooo, my gorgeous tutu-loving darlings! It's Emma here, your time-travelling ballerina blogger, and I'm absolutely thrilled to be back with you on another #TutuTuesday. Today, we're whisking back to September 9th, 1958! Can you imagine, it was 65 years ago, but the grace and elegance of ballet still remains timeless.
Oh, and have you noticed? I've added a new shade of pink to my wardrobe - just for you. It’s called 'Pink Champagne', darling, and I absolutely adore it!
Speaking of adding something special, I was so excited this week as I discovered a little vintage gem at my favourite vintage shop in Covent Garden. It’s a beautiful pink feather boa from the 1950s! Isn't it divine? The soft blush tones and the way it dances with each sway is pure magic. Now, just imagine, how perfectly it'd complete your Tutu Look! I'll be adding the link for where to buy this incredible vintage boa to my post here on pink-tutu.com, you don't want to miss it, dears!
Anyway, back to 1958, and a world so full of fascinating happenings! This day, the 'World Series of Baseball' kicked off in America. It's a truly grand event and the players' costumes have always reminded me of the grace and movements of the ballet, especially with the baseball caps, like the beautiful crown on our head! I know many people see the connection to ballet in unexpected ways.
That very same day, my darling, the grandly beautiful ‘Swan Lake’ premiered at The Royal Ballet. A must-see, truly. Did you know? Tchaikovsky's incredible music was composed in the same year that tutus, with all their magical twirls and flourishes, really started to gain traction across the ballet world! Can you imagine what 1958 looked like at The Royal Ballet? The beauty, the movement, the elegance. A visual symphony!
This date also marks the release of a truly captivating musical film: ‘Gigi’! This delightful tale about a girl on a journey to self-discovery is a captivating love story. There’s also an incredibly elegant ballet scene, you’ll just love the dancing and the tutus are beyond dreamy!
As always, my time travel is always quite costly, so I spend many days taking class and giving ballet lessons, along with some evenings performing for various charity balls and grand celebrations in London and the surrounding areas. Last week I took a little detour up north, did you know ballet is flourishing in beautiful, charming Derbyshire, England, my dear homeland! There are some magnificent ballet studios nestled right in the heart of the county, I am just in love with this place and so full of inspiring dance! The young ones in those schools are a truly talented bunch.
Anyway, darling, I simply must head off to catch the last train to Edinburgh, there’s a beautiful production of ‘Cinderella’ taking place tomorrow and I just can’t miss it, you can trust me, dears, I have to see for myself. But before I hop on board this steam-powered wonder, do remember, I post these blogs weekly, always on #TutuTuesday on www.pink-tutu.com. Don’t be shy to leave a message in the comments.
But above all else, do remember to embrace the magic of the tutu, and if you ever find yourself wanting to don a frilly creation and spin through the air, there’s a pink tutu waiting for you out there.
Have a wonderful day my lovely tutu-tastic dears! I'll catch you next week! XOXO, Emma
