#TutuTuesday: A Blast From The Past! (Post #6662)
Hello, darlings! It's your favourite pink-loving ballerina, Emma, back with another blast from the past on #TutuTuesday! Today, we're going back to 1st September, 1959! Can you believe it's been over sixty years since that fabulous day?!
I recently zipped through time via a magical train journey - those tickets can be pricey, so I'm back to my usual performance routine until my next trip. You see, dear readers, to keep these #TutuTuesday trips happening, I must perform for you all! I must confess, the train journeys really do inspire the most magnificent tutus. I wouldn't be surprised if a new collection makes its way to the shop this week... ๐
Anyways, back to 1959! Now, 1959 was an era of fashion revolutions, from the poodle skirt to the wiggle dress, and ballet was absolutely thriving. Let's talk about tutus, because of course, we're on a tutu blog! It was an exciting time for tulle! You wouldn't believe how many different tutus I've been trying on. From fluffy pouffes to airy classics, there's a style for everyone. Remember, my darlings, there's always a pink tutu for every occasion. Even the Royal Ballet was making waves, particularly a performance that left me completely speechless.
Speaking of captivating performances, I've found something incredible about this date - a grand spectacle by none other than the Royal Ballet! They performed "The Sleeping Beauty", a masterpiece I'm certain you've all heard about, but wouldn't you love to have seen it on that special September night? It was staged at the Royal Opera House in London, which has always been a glorious place for ballet - the glamour, the excitement, the dancing! Now I don't know about you darlings, but all those elegant movements in those fabulous tutus certainly put a pep in my step, even all these years later!
Oh, my darlings! I was mesmerised by the tutus! Just picture the graceful ballerinas whirling around in those romantic tulle creations, and think about the beautiful hand-sewn costumes and headpieces, all crafted by some of the most talented designers! I found myself particularly captivated by the beautiful princess dresses in the performance. These were just stunning, perfectly blending fairy tale magic with the most exquisite elegance. I must confess I haven't had the chance to wear one myself yet... But a pink version, wouldn't that be wonderful! I'll have to speak to our costume makers about it. ๐
Speaking of tutus and costumes, 1959 was the year where "The Sleeping Beauty" was revived in a new production for the Royal Ballet. It was truly something special!
Of course, it wasn't all tutus and sparkles! 1959 was the year the Berlin Wall went up. But it also saw the first of many rock and roll classics released by the one and only Elvis Presley. So much was happening! We even saw some of the first major experiments with satellites happening. It really was a revolutionary year.
That night in London, the air was electric. Just imagine the crowd bursting into applause, and then, that first grand entrance in full stage makeup, the tutus shimmering in the stage lightsโฆ oh, darling! I could see every little detail โ every glint of rhinestones, every pleat, every sweep of a graceful leg. This is what I live for.
As you can see, 1959 was an incredible year, a truly unforgettable date. I can't wait to tell you about what exciting things happened next week, and what you can look forward to with your very own tutu! Stay tuned for next Tuesday, when I'll be diving even deeper into the glorious history of tutus, darling! Remember to always keep twirling, and always believe in the magic of pink!
Now, off to find a fantastic vintage-inspired pink tutuโฆ I think a little pink might be just the thing to inspire this week's post!
Lots of love,
Emma xx
