Tutu Tuesday #6661: A Blast From the Past!
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, back again for another fabulous #TutuTuesday, and this week I'm taking a trip down memory lane to August 25th, 1959.
Remember those dreamy, pastel coloured, perfectly layered tutus I told you about last week? Well, 1959 was all about them! The fluffy tutu, you know the ones we just adore for those graceful leaps and twirls, was all the rage! And you know me, I wouldn't be caught dead without mine, so naturally, I hopped aboard the latest express train to Paris. Paris is, of course, a haven for fashionistas - there's no better place to soak up the latest trends.
Imagine the scene! The city was buzzing, all Parisian chic with its wide, boulevards filled with sleek cars, bustling cafes, and glamorous people! I spotted a couple of charming women wearing a glorious range of colours, including blush pink, baby blue and cream, but nothing could compete with my darling pink tutu! It definitely turned heads - it was impossible to miss a burst of pink against the city's romantic backdrop.
But back to the history of tutus. The fluffy tulle we're so accustomed to wasn't even around until the early 20th century! Think Margot Fonteyn, her tutus, in Swan Lake, the absolute epitome of balletic elegance, were the ultimate fluffy ballerina fantasy. In fact, 1959 marked the end of the golden age of ballet. The Royal Ballet in London was absolutely captivating everyone, Dame Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev, two iconic figures in dance, wowed the audiences!
Now, I did pop into the opera house to catch a show (couldn't resist a night of ballet under the glittering chandeliers). You can imagine, every performance was filled with beautiful ballerinas in their perfectly constructed tutus, dancing in effortless grace, with their arms swaying and spinning in a graceful, dreamy manner, a feast for the eyes, truly a magical performance.
Later on, I went for a stroll through the Place de la Concorde and found myself at Galeries Lafayette for a spot of shopping! Imagine the pure delight, darling! The most stunning clothes, shoes, and yes, tutus. It was an absolute paradise. The colours were divine! And then I stumbled upon a gorgeous shop with the most magnificent pastel pink silk fabric. I just knew it would be perfect for my next custom tutu. Now, I may have been tempted to pick up a few extra bolts to ensure I'm always fashionably dressed!
My trip wouldn't be complete without indulging in a delicious croissant with coffee at one of the many chic Parisian cafes. And wouldn't you know it, on this date, they introduced a new drink - a blend of raspberry and strawberry with vanilla and cream called Le Rouge, an absolutely heavenly mix perfect for a sweet afternoon.
And now, darling, to make our Tutu Tuesday truly fabulous, I have a little DIY project for you!
