Tutu Tuesday #6689: Back to the 60s! 🩰💖

Hello, my darling tutulettes! It’s Emma, your pink-loving, tutu-obsessed blogger, bringing you another installment of #TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History. Buckle up, darlings, because this week we’re stepping back in time – all the way to March 8th, 1960!

Oh, the excitement! Imagine me, in my fabulous pink tutu, boarding a steam train with its plush velvet seats and tinkling bells, heading to Paris for a whirl around the glamorous boutiques. And you know me, shopping for tutus is top of the agenda!

Speaking of Paris, it's hard to think of the 1960s without remembering the Parisian fashion scene. It was all about sophistication, chic, and, dare I say it, elegance. And the ballet was right at the centre of this stylish whirl!

Now, I'm no historian, but I know a tutu when I see one. And in 1960, tutus were more than just fancy underwear. They were statements. Imagine: billowing layers of tulle in the most gorgeous colours, with dancers twirling in intricate steps – a real spectacle for the eyes! The iconic look of the "romantic" ballet was definitely in vogue.

Imagine those fabulous long tutus swirling around the stage in ballets like "Giselle" and "Swan Lake". Picture them, my dears, just as I did on this particular day in Paris, in my little pink-hued mind! Those ballerinas, their steps so light and graceful, almost a blur as their tutus danced along with them! I felt just like a young ballerina myself, standing in a dimly lit shop filled with tulle, a little girl dreaming of a life in dance.

And, you know what? I saw something amazing that day in a shop called "Mademoiselle" – the most delicate pink tutu. Just like mine, of course, but in a silkier, lighter fabric – an explosion of beautiful detail and intricate lacework. I almost swooned. It looked almost edible! Sadly, my budget, as always, was limited, but I did snap up some glorious lace ribbon for my own tutus and envisioned a wonderful tutu of my own. A tutu, not like anything seen before, and one that might inspire even more pink tulle twirls around the world!

But of course, it wasn't just the tutu that made this time so special. March 8th, 1960, happened to be International Women’s Day, a day dedicated to celebrating women all over the world!

Just imagine, darling, this world without the strength and resilience of women. I think, perhaps, those ballerinas dancing on stage were the epitome of strength and beauty. Imagine a world without that beauty, without the elegant and strong tutus floating across the stage in perfect harmony. That’s the world we don’t want, right?

And we definitely wouldn't want a world without tutus! In a world filled with ballet, style and colour, it makes sense that the world needs the fabulous tutus! What’s a little pink tutu if it gives everyone a spring in their step and makes them smile?

So, until next time, tutulettes, keep spinning! And don’t forget, every day is a chance to celebrate yourself and everything that makes you unique – in the grand, swirling tradition of the Tutu. Remember, all you need is a touch of pink, a touch of tulle, and a dash of fabulous. 😉
