#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through the Sixties! (Blog Post #6705)

Hello darlings! It’s your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, here, back for another whirl through history on your weekly dose of #TutuTuesday! This week, we're shimmying our way back to 28th June, 1960 – a glorious date for tutus! Buckle your pointe shoes and grab your fanciest pink petticoat because we’re stepping into the heart of the 60s.

I can almost smell the exciting aroma of change in the air! It's a thrilling time for fashion, for dance, and for… well, for tutus! Let's talk about a ballet that rocked the world of 1960. Can you guess? It's the legendary Sleeping Beauty, my absolute favourite!

Imagine, stepping into a plush theatre, the velvet seats sinking beneath you as you watch Margot Fonteyn embody Princess Aurora, a role made even more radiant by the elegant pink tutus. Oh, it was utterly divine! These 60s tutus were a true evolution of the classic shape - shorter, airier, and bursting with personality. We were in for a ballet fashion extravaganza, and believe me, this year Sleeping Beauty delivered with a magnificent score from Tchaikovsky to boot!

But it wasn’t just ballet where tutus were dazzling! I was recently on a little adventure in Paris. You know, hopping off the Orient Express, making my way to the Grands Boulevards, and voila… Parisian women rocking those full-skirted, poofy numbers, all pink, of course. The French adore the colour pink as much as I do! You know, the whole 'New Look' by Dior, with all that fabulous fabric – tutus on the streets, darlings! Absolutely dreamy! A true dance with fashion and style that still inspires today.

The London fashion scene was no slouch either! Mary Quant was stirring things up, revolutionizing street wear with her mini-skirts and bold colours. There was even a brief but oh-so-brilliant tutu trend taking over! Ladies wore these little mini-tutu creations with daring shoes, a rebellious twist that perfectly captured the 60s spirit. And yes, it even came in a fabulously chic pink! You just had to have one for the party! This period felt so joyous and vibrant, everyone felt a touch of tutus!

Oh, and I must tell you about a little event on 28th June that filled the air with music, light, and lots of… tutus! A musical in London called "Oliver!" You can’t imagine the spectacle, with charming street urchins twirling around in tutu-like skirts. You can almost imagine the twinkle in their eyes as they danced across the stage, even without pointy toes. So, even with their little shoes, these children’s “tutus” embraced the playful joy that was taking hold of fashion at the time. The influence of dance on everyday wear was more potent than ever, don’t you think? The power of tutus is indeed amazing!

As always, my darling friends, a big pink tutu hug and lots of swirling, spinning kisses! Remember to join me next week for another #TutuTuesday trip, filled with delightful fashion discoveries! And please, do send me pictures of your favorite pink tutus! I want to see you all shining bright in pink!

Keep twirling and dancing!
