#TutuTuesday: A Blast From The Past! (Post #6706)

Hello, my darling tutus! Welcome to another #TutuTuesday on www.pink-tutu.com. Today, I'm taking us on a grand tour through time, all the way back to 5th July, 1960! Buckle up, darling, we're about to go on a magical journey...

I just love travelling through time, don't you? The fashion, the dance, the whole atmosphere is just utterly enchanting! Today I'm in New York, a real hub for the arts, especially ballet. This city is just bursting with energy! You'd think every second person here is wearing a tutu. Honestly, it's a tutu-lover's dream come true!

So, what's happening in the world of dance on 5th July, 1960? Let me tell you!

The legendary New York City Ballet is getting ready for another performance at Lincoln Center! Can you imagine?! I'm actually standing just outside, ready to watch. It’s an absolute must-see – everyone is talking about “Agon,” George Balanchine's newest work. The music, oh my, by Stravinsky. Absolutely magical! You see, darling, this was quite a special ballet. It really set the tone for modern ballet, with its abstract movement and focus on strong lines.

Inside the theater, it’s buzzing with excitement. A touch of glamour here, a splash of elegance there - I just love the whole scene! I can imagine the lights going down, the music starting and the sheer artistry of it all… divine! You know, even today, in the world of 2023, Agon is still considered a classic!

And, oh my word! Did I mention the outfits? Let’s just say that these ballerinas have some pretty amazing tutus! I am so very grateful to these pioneers, for their boldness and style. They paved the way for us tutudded gals today.

Talking about style, you just can’t imagine the fashion. The ladies are wearing big, sweeping skirts, bold colours like emerald green and vibrant orange. And the hair? Forget sleek, it’s all big and bouffant, with those darling pillbox hats. I love it! Such a great contrast to the sleek ballerina look - think Audrey Hepburn at her best!

There’s another special performance on this day: the New York City Opera, with an absolutely beautiful rendition of Madama Butterfly by Puccini. My oh my, it’s enough to bring a tear to your eye! I’m hoping to catch a show later, if I’ve got time – you know I love a bit of opera! It’s the perfect compliment to a tutu, and the fashion! I adore the beautiful gowns!

After all this lovely culture, I'm definitely going to be making my way over to Bergdorf Goodman! This shop is simply legendary. You see darling, they opened way back in 1901! Just think of the history. It’s all those vintage gowns I love so much.

And let's not forget, darling, it's not just about the outfits. This is the time of big, dramatic hats, so don't be afraid to wear your little crown to the ballet. Or if you really want to make a statement, throw on a bold hat to your usual look!

I must tell you, darling, travelling back to the 1960s is absolutely delightful, just bursting with charm. It reminds me of how ballet and fashion go hand-in-hand, two intertwined sisters with a shared love of style and elegance. And even though styles change, a beautiful tutu is always a good idea.

Right, time for me to whisk myself back to my own era. It's been a total joy to be here in New York on this iconic date in ballet history. Remember darling, when in doubt, a pink tutu will always save the day!

Have a delightful week, and make sure you join me again next #TutuTuesday. Don't forget to share your tutudded outfits on social media, using the hashtag #TutuTuesday.

Lots of love,

Emma xoxo
