#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: March 27th, 1962 - A Tutu for Every Occasion!

Hello Darlings! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, your weekly dose of tutu-tastic history! I'm Emma, your ever-so-pink-loving, tutu-obsessed, time-travelling ballerina. It's #TutuTuesday and you know what that means – another adventure through the fascinating world of tutu history!

This week we're travelling back to a time where everything was on the cusp of change, 1962. Oh, how the world was different! But you know what hasn't changed? Our love of tutus, of course!

It was a Wednesday in March, and you know what they say – there's a tutu for every day of the week! For the 27th March 1962 though, we might be needing something extra special. This date marks a day for celebrating all the remarkable women around the world – International Women’s Day. How wonderful is that? And guess what? There's no better way to show your support than with a gorgeous, twirling-ready tutu!

But we'll get to the "Tutu for International Women's Day" later on, darlings! Let's have a look at what else happened on this delightful day in 1962:

  • In the Realm of Music: It's always an honour to kick things off with music, isn't it? And guess what? This day saw a lovely new musical being presented in London. I bet it was a smash hit with some spectacularly tutued dancers! Imagine the sheer thrill of attending such an event! I do wish I could have gone! I love musical theatre almost as much as I love my pink tutu. But luckily, it’s one of those experiences we can all relive any day we want.

  • A World of Wonders: Did you know? The wonderful London Zoo is actually over 175 years old! On this particular Wednesday in 1962, the zoo announced a brand new addition - a delightful baby chimpanzee! This was quite the big news for the world of chimpanzee fans, of course, and no doubt some little girls wore their best tutus to visit this delightful little monkey. Can you imagine the squeals?

  • Across the Channel: Back in England we were enjoying a glorious week in Spring, the skies were blue, the weather balmy. And the train journeys, ah the train journeys! Now that is something I'd definitely take a trip for! Across the channel though, things were more, shall we say... breezy? In Paris, on this exact same day, a fierce wind whipped up a bit of a frenzy. They say the wind knocked down the famous Arc de Triomphe’s flame – how dramatic!

But enough about the news! Now, darlings, let’s move onto our main event, shall we? Tututuesday History and the World of International Women's Day!

International Women's Day 1962: A Time for Tutu-rific Celebrations!

As I mentioned, 27th March, 1962 marked International Women’s Day. But just imagine how different the world was then! For the time, the concept of an “International Women's Day” wasn’t exactly mainstream!

But even then, Women’s Day served as a poignant reminder of the need for women's empowerment. They wanted to celebrate and advocate for the right to equality – a mission worth tutu-ing about!

Think about it, dear friends! If we can put a lovely fluffy tutu on an adorable toddler girl, then a little bit of “girlish” inspiration might even change the world! You might not have even thought of that one before but isn't that just the way of it?

Let's have a bit of fun for a moment though! How would we have worn tutus to mark this wonderful occasion in 1962?

Think bright, breezy pastels - think lemon chiffon and primrose pink! For International Women's Day, I'd envision the most whimsical and lovely tutus. Nothing fussy - it's all about keeping things elegant and understated! This was an era of sophistication and glamour. But, you can still feel that tutu magic in 1962, I promise you! Imagine dancing your heart out at a beautiful afternoon tea with your friends in one of these magnificent tutus - simply perfect!

In the realm of tutu styles? I think this might be our moment for something elegant but subtle – nothing too puffy! Instead of all those extravagant, larger-than-life tutus, this was a time for soft and flowing chiffon. And that lovely pastel hue, of course! Just a beautiful, feminine, light and dreamy silhouette - pure 1960s beauty! You can wear it to any fancy function and be assured of creating a lovely stir. Remember, we love elegance at Pink-Tutu.com!

Now let’s imagine taking a whirl on a bustling Wednesday afternoon in March. Picture yourself at a bustling, elegant afternoon tea, with those little finger sandwiches and delicate, steaming cups of tea! Now, try adding a big, bubbly pink tutu with a pretty, lace top! You just can't help but feel all lovely and confident, right? Isn’t that what it’s all about, dear friends?

A little dose of girly magic? Now that's an international day well spent, don’t you think? It’s so lovely to know we’ve all got a reason to celebrate and embrace the best parts of femininity - whether that be in the way of tutus, or just in the way we behave.

Of course, for 1962 International Women's Day, most ladies wouldn't have donned a full tutu! But for the bolder, and those wanting to make a tutu statement, you could just go for the “everyday” look - a pink ribbon or bow here, a pink lace trimming on your jacket there! Even a bit of a playful Pink tutu bow on your shoes would have done! Just a splash of pink to make the world a little more whimsical! The tutu magic, it's never truly absent.

**Remember, our mission at Pink-Tutu.com is to ensure the world stays colourful and magical! And it just wouldn't be the same without those delicious, graceful tutus. What better way to express your own individuality and feminine flair than by dancing into your future wearing one? It’s a delightful world full of beauty, imagination and magic! And you know what they say, life's always a little more exciting when you've got a tutu on.

Well, darling friends, it’s time to take off for my next time travelling escapade, as my dear train is just waiting outside! I hope you enjoyed this delightful blast to 1962, and I can't wait to take you on another historical tutu adventure soon!

And remember! Let's celebrate femininity and fashion all week, don’t forget! Go out, grab your pinkest tutu, and have a fab time! See you next #TutuTuesday!

Lots of love, Emma 💋
