#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 20th November 1962 (Post 6830)
Hello darling tutu lovers! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu enthusiast, and welcome to another fabulous Tuesday, dedicated to the magnificent history of the tutu!
Today we're taking a little trip back in time, to the 20th November 1962, right in the heart of the swinging sixties. Oh, the excitement! Think Audrey Hepburn in a fabulous frock, sleek beehives, and of course, all the dance-floor magic you can shake a pompom at! It's truly a blast from the past, and oh darling, what a time for ballet!
Now, back in 1962, tutus were all about movement, darling. Imagine flowing layers of tulle, just swishing and twirling to the music. And let's not forget those amazing colors, from sunshine yellows to rich blues and even the most vibrant of pinks (my personal favourite, naturally)! The tutus back then, especially the classical ones, were all about showing off the graceful lines of a ballerina, their poise, and the artistry of their leaps and turns.
Speaking of ballet shows, darling, there was a simply spectacular production of "Giselle" going on in the beautiful Paris Opera House on this very day. I could practically imagine the delicate "white act" tutus, the elegant wispy costumes just floating and shimmering, the perfect contrast to the powerful, passionate tutus in the second act. Just fabulous!
Of course, my little darling tutu aficionados, 1962 was more than just the stage. It was also a time of fantastic fashion! Think bold prints, a bit of geometric fun, and of course, a whole lotta love for the fabulous "New Look" style - think full skirts and nipped-in waists. It was all about elegance and glamour, with just a hint of sass.
My trip back to this magical era started, as always, with a lovely train journey, passing through the picturesque English countryside. As always, it's a treat to observe all the fascinating fashion. But don’t you worry darling, this little pink tutu enthusiast made quite a splash with my flamboyant dress sense even on the train.
Speaking of fashion, you can’t forget to have a little bit of shopping time when you’re back in the past! My latest find is an absolutely gorgeous vintage clutch bag. Just imagine: beaded with the most delicate sequins, it has this stunning "art deco" vibe, perfect to complement any tutu, whether for a balletic evening out or a jaunty day about town. I'll be posting about that vintage treasure later on the blog, so stay tuned, darling!
Back in my time, in Derbyshire, the world of ballet was thriving. We have a little gem of a ballet school nestled in the heart of our lovely green hills, offering classes for both young and old, from beginners to those aspiring to be professional dancers. We had a delightful performance a few weeks ago by local young talent - such wonderful dancing and such sweet and inspiring young hearts.
As I wind down for the night, darling, remember, wear pink, dance often, and always remember, it’s perfectly acceptable to twirl through life like the dazzling stars of the ballet stage! Catch you next week for another fab #TutuTuesday!
Lots of love, Emma x
P.S. Darling, my journey back to my time wasn’t so smooth, however. The railway was suffering a bit from the bitter cold of the early winter, a bit like Derbyshire’s winters. You would never imagine, it all started when…
Oh, maybe next time! Stay tuned darling!
